If I were going to steal a horse for ransom, I think I'd chose a totally different horse to kidnap LMAO. One with less controversy surrounding him...IE more guarantee that they'd get the ransom money.

Question. In insurance policies, is the payout for loss of use the same as theft or even mortality? Do you think Capone may have been injured to the point where he would not have required euthanasia, but so much so that he could never compete again?

I think we're all in agreement that he didn't get "horsenapped" for ransom. Wouldn't make any sense for the reasons you mentioned.

Someone else can probably better answer the insurance question, but "loss of use" as either a breeding stallion or as a performer were probably insured. If he was so badly injured that he needed to be put down, I would expect the insurance company to have to cough up the bucks. If he were rendered sterile and unable to perform both, wouldn't that be the same as a total loss? In all probability, this situation will make it much harder and take longer to collect the insurance. But, probably no one knows for sure except those with access to the policy info.

oh my...im SOOO sorry all this horrible luck has happened to you and Penny!
This most deffinately sounds like an inside job to me...like, the "owner" is hiding him away waiting for a big old fat insurance check and then all of a sudden, "Capone is back!!" hmmm...I can See it now..."Come one, Come all! come breed to this wonderful Stallion! He was stolen before! Oh goodness! Just wait until you tell all your friends you bred your mare to the famous stolen stallion!"

A publicity stunt and an insurance check all in one...

hmmmm...ya know, sometimes, even at 15 I think I'm much more mature than half the adults out there...

Google that name. YES, it's the same Douglas Spink. Wow. Who would hire that guy? If a horse went missing at my barn I'd be pointing fingers at the ex-con for sure...

What a mess! Poor Penny needs what she can't have...I am going to read FHOTD and see what she has to say about it... had to be an inside job, they knew no one was at the barn, and the guard dogs did not attack them!
I smell something fishey....

We took out insurance on my new little fellow. There were different levels, from insurance just for death to loss of use through injury etc etc. I'm sure such a well performed stallion would have insurance with all the bells and whistles.

Certainly sounds suspect. Poor stallion!
