More hay, less grain, we feed oats, and the horses have panels drawn to see if they are lacking anything, if they are, they get it. Simple.

"Oats (65 percent TDN)
Among grains, oats are the choice of most horse owners and horses. Because they are bulky, oats permit maximum liberty in their use with minimum danger of digestive disorders. Most fastidious horses find oats to their liking. Oats are higher in protein than most grains, which makes them useful with low-protein grass hays. However, half legume hay ensures a more complete ration when oats are fed as the only grain. Some disadvantages are expense on a TDN basis and variability in quality. Federal grades are number 1, number 2, number 3, number 4 and Sample, with 1 and 2 the best buys."

heres my two-cents about oats

before i put my tb on oats i was feeding TC complete.
i had a ciroprtactor comeout due to other issues.. He studys kinesiology and told us that he could smell toxins coming off my tb's breath and his small intestine was basically just sick.. and it was all because of the food. it just wanst mixing well with his body. his coat was very very dull and he was a total different color.. he was a light bay(when hes really a dark bay) and he skin was flakey and dryyyyy! he just wasnt healthy.

so the ciroprator reccomended me switching to plain oats and i also had the vet comeout and he gave me a medicated shampoo for his skin issues.
but the main reason my horse wasnt healthy was because the tc complete was making him sick inside.

so after switching him to oats ( hes also on stamm 30..vit supp, joint supp..and ricebran oil.) my horse is totally different! goodness i cant stress enough about how great he looks now.

hes a dark bay again! after switching the food he really started to shedout his unhealthy coat and his dark color came back in. he has dapples out the ying-yang! and he acts like he feels alot better to.
hes soooooooo shinny..and i had the ciro back out and he said he couldnt smell any toxins on his breath anymore.

slews doing very very well on oats and his vit supp.
i also give him grass hay and alfalpha hay ! one flake of each in the morning.

hes doing great i really need to get pictures. but oats have done alot of good for us. !
im VERRRRRRRRRY pleased.
