NY slaughter auction coming up

If anyone is interested in saving a horse, the local livestock auction house is starting up with horse sales again. Last year horses sold for as little as $35. There are bound to be more pity cases than ever this year and anyone who can afford to feed one more mouth for the winter will be doing a good deed. The sale is primarily an amish auction with drafts and standardbreds, but there is a large section of riding horses and ponies to follow. These are the ones who sell the lowest. I have bought some very nice horses through this sale who need a little work or groceries. Here is the info:
When: Sept. 13th, 10 am
Where: Finger Lakes Livestock Exchange
Rts 5 and 20, between Canandaigua and Geneva, NY

If anyone wants more info, you can PM me.

What breaks my heart the most is that it is too far away from me....

Last year I was at an auction, and it wasn't specifcally "slaughter" but there was some kill buyers there. And the most horrible thing happened...

A gorgeous 6 month old Anglo Arab colt was sent to slaughter for $5

It was really upsetting. I couldn't believe that no one wanted him. He was gorgeous, young, grey, big, and a nice mover for a youngster. And he suffered a horrible fate ):

They don't slaughter foals, he may have been bought by a kill buyer but its been years since the slaughter plants pay money for horses under 900 lbs. Think meat with over 9,250,000 horses in the U.S. why would they buy little horses? Not all the horses meat buyers buy go to slaughter, fact is most of them don't they resell them for what ever reason brings them the most money.

Tink, PM me if you have questions. Be prepared to want to bring something home! I highly suggest a quarantine for any horses coming through the sale before you mix with your own. I have brought home coooties from this sale before.
Yes, not all horses bought by the kill buyer go to slaughter. They tend to make the rounds going from one sale to the next, so often buy cheap at one sale, then run the horses through another, hoping to make a few bucks. I have seen horses come through with 3 or 4 different stickers on thier rumps from different sales! Only those who end up on the truck at the end of a trip meet their fate.
