I had a summer where I did this with 2 horses. One was a horse I used to own and I would bridle him up jump on him and just ride with the reins resting on his neck. He would get stubborn at the gate and I had to use them to direct him (he only direct reined). The other was my mare I got on her bareback with a halter and a lead rope and would ride her for an hour of just trying to get her to respond to my seat, using the lead rope as an aid. By the end of that summer, I could get my mare to stop, lope, trot, go left go right etc just by how I was sitting. I could never get the hang of backing up but it took a lot of work and to do something like she is doing I give applause. Just because someone has done it before doesn't mean its not an accomplishment. She worked hard and we should be patting her on the back not saying "Well its been done before". It's all been done before so its irrelevent just enjoy the obvious bond between a horse and rider.

As far as training methods go they have all been used before and a lot of them are the same but they make money off them by teaching them to others who don't know them. Parelli, Lyons everyone is using techniques they didn't invent and getting money for it. That doesn't make the teachers any less good or the techniques any less useful. I think people need ot keep and open eye and mind to training techniques. What works for some horses won't for others. I have had to use so many different methods on so many different horses, its a matter of finding out what works.

Don't we all take a little bit of all the things we learn with horses and in life and apply what works? It is probably something different for all of us.
Variety is the spice of life.
