I was just pointing out that she isn't doing anything fancy by getting to where she is. Spending a lot of time with the same horse is going to get to somewhere - your going to develop that bond everyone looks for. When she starts taking new horse after new horse to that level - then i'll be impressed. But until then - shes just another one of the people with a great horse who she did some great things with. Not denying shes a great horsewomen, but shes not doing anything that several other people in front of her haven't done before. Shes just a little more flashy - doing it at congress. Shes definitely smart.

There have been other people to win the road to the horse as well. Shes not the only one. IMO thats almost as much luck as it is skill - getting the quiestest colt in the bunch always is going to help your cause than having a naturally more skiddish one. She worked up here with a colt that was a little skiddish - who WAS human friendly and had respect and done saddling and ground work - and she didn't get on it in that weekend (she was definitely expected to). I admired her for not getting on a colt that wasn't ready, BUT, if she would have given him thinking breaks I thinks he would have had a quieter colt to get a little farther. I was not impressed with the ground work she was doing - too rough and too quick for my taste.
It is easier to teach respect to a colt that has not been handled.

Well he sure had respect by the end. More like shaking in his boots fear of doing the wrong answer.

I think that all of the big name trainers that put on shows kind of rush through the training they would normally do.

OK i agree and disagree with AMD ... that video was absolutly amazing.... I do agree with the bond theory because i have had a horse that was a perfect pushbutton horse and would only do walk trot and that was scary but then i got a mare that i really love and trust and now i jump, canter, and ride bareback all the time.
but on the other hand you seem defensive in your comments.... I feel like your jealous that people are congratulating this woman on her work. Its ok the feel this way too i would kill to ride like that but i do have to disagree with you in that horses are still a wild animal and it does take skill even to ride a horse that is "pushbutton" beacause at anymoment they can change thier mind, and this woman has great talent and skill. we are all capable of it yea but it requires a great deal of disipline, effort, and time which now a day is very hard to do!
im not trying to offend anyone on step on anyones toes this is just IMO.

Opinions are wonderful. I just don't like how the horse world works - when someone does something amazing they seem to think its the first time its ever done. Lynn Palm was HUGE for several years after her string with Rugged Lark. She never again had such success - one great horse and make you who you are. Its a good thing and a bad thing. I'm just trying to get people to notice that ANYONE can do what she does and it has been done hundreds of times before.

Jealous - not at all. If I had any sort of money or time - I would be out there with my horse doing the same thing - Stacey is living the dream and good for her - more power to her. I'm merely trying to point out to people that this same thing has been done by several other trainers before her, she isn't anything new - heck the bridleless WP class at the APHA world show IMO is very amazing, you have studs, mares, geldings all in the same arena at the same time - you not only have to have your horse focus on you - but you have to do it with 5 times the distractions.

I personally didn't pick up on any jealousy in AMD's post, and find it rather refreshingly blunt.

its marvelous to watch her, and I really held my breath with excitement at some points.... but I think its inspiring to know that she's far from being the only, or first, or best... and I personally appreciate AMD's attempt to remind us that even the headliners are human too.

Someone recently posted a thread here about a troupe of young native american girls that ride in a club, doing demonstrations over fences, 3 abreast in some of the photos I've seen, and drill team type movements, without tack of any kind.. and they've been at it since the 1950's.

Like I said, I find it inspiring to know that its not just the gifted few that can reach that level of harmony.... and I like being reminded that the people I admire are just people too.

thanks AMD

i have to agree with ADM on this, anyone can do it given time, understanding and patience. key ingredient is a bond.
i was not too thrilled by the video because its been seen time and tme again with different people and shes doing no different to them. it was not exacly harmony either i thought it was quite sharp, mostly did not like her kicking the horses foot for him to bow (more practice in that are would be needed with a better aid than kicking it out from under the horse) just my opinion.
