Horses are shipped all across the US as it is. Same with beef to feed lots and processors. The consumer pays the cost. Going to Canada, or Mexico is not big deal if money is to be made.

Horses are bringing 40 cents a pound on the hoof.
Beef is more than double that, and still shows a huge profit.
If there is money to be made, and an excess of horses, is becomes a matter of creativity and loop holes.
I just makes us feel better that they are not being processed inside our borders.

Still, the best way to end slaughter is to out bid the competition.
I have not seen any group pushing to take on thousands of unwanted horses. Or cattle, chickes, goats, hogs or any animal for that matter.

As it is now, yes out bid the competition Many are "Trying" that counts for something. When you mean "Group" which group are you speaking of?

I ask you this here in this thread: Are you making a joke of the slaughter of the horse

The slaughter of the horse will never end, the painful issue for all horse lovers, does not want to see this animal slaughtered, even those who feel it has to be done IMO. There will be a time here in USA he will not be slaughtered, though that time I don't think my generation will see, yet one can hope...

I think its time this one was dropped. Honestly i dont think saddlehappy was making fun of slaughter at all - but of this thread. Really equine_harmony stating the same thing over and over is not productive. We all know your views by now, not many of us agree with you and since you have managed to take this thread WAY off-topic I think its about time the whole matter was closed.
Tim how do we petition for another banning of slaughter threads like we had a year or so back?

^^ Highly agreed.

Though, there are some nice ones where things are learnt It would be a shame to loose the learning/education experience as there are new members each time one comes round.

This one however has not only run it's course, but has somehow changed courses to go back to horse slaughter.

Group.. Any group of people saying slaughter should be ended, with out providing a home for theses animals, or a realistic alternative for when these animals are pulled from the food chain, especially for pets.
It is one thing to work with a movement to see a personal opinion become a reality.

It is another to voice and not provide a viable option if that goal is ever reached. Until a complete plan is put on the table, then a solution will never be reached.

I do not see the processing of horses ever ending. I do see it being brought to front light and those who had no prior opinion seeing it as a necessity.
This thread is really about all animals, and is not about ones species over the other.
We need to wrap it up here. This one has again gone off topic and will soon be closed.

Exactly Lou! Of course I'm not making fun of horse slaughter. Just this thread, and it's many identical twins that pop up every other day, repeating the same old mantra. I hate the idea or horse slaughter. I hate that it's a reality in our world. But I don't know myself what the solution is, and I don't think we are going to discover the solution on this thread or any other by repeating the same thing over and over.
Furthermore, while I don't eat horse meat, and don't plan to unless an unexpected starvation sets in, I do feel a little bit pragmatic about the situation.... if a horse is going to be put to death anyway, why not make his death count for something else.... feeding dogs, or people, or making gelatin, or whatever else they do with horses. I don't really see this as any different from the fact that I'm an organ donor.
I don't want to see any kind of animal suffer needlessly... I don't think there's anyone on this forum who would feel differently. I eat only healthy naturally raised, happy animals wherever possible, but I think the horror stories put out by animal rights organizations are WAY exagerated.

But making fun of horse slaughter? No way. Just trying to lighten up a very tedious thread about a very tired topic that seems fated to be discussed ad infinitum.
