JB, you are right and I will be the FIRST to admit that I am totally guessing on his weight gain. I will try to get pics so that you all can give me your impression. I believe that I have pics on here somewhere of him the day after we got him. I will look.
Right after we got him.
At one week.
Silly guy, he still doesn't hardly take his head out of that feeder. The only thing that will drag him out is getting brushed, eating and attention. Such a nice guy.

I will head out to get some new ones here pretty quick. Gotta check my mare anyway.

The one week picture shows a little weight gain, and I bet that you did very much overestimate his total weight gain The new ones will tell for sure, but I think if he put on 200lb from the "before" picture, he'd be fat

Yeah, you are pry right. The after pics are going to have to wait though. He hurt himself this morning since I was out there earlier. I ran out in my slippers so I had to come back in to get shoes and a coat. May have to take him to the vet. I will post pics of the wounds when I get him take care of a bit. Not sure what to do. I CAN guess what happened. He is in his own run next to another gelding, last night was the first time they had met. They did the usual smelling each other and squealing like pigs and had stopped by the time we had chores done, 30 mins or so. Well it looks like he was kicking, or trying and may have gotten BOTH back legs caught in the pipe fence. Has terrible burn looking wounds almost the whole length of both back legs. One is worse than the other. I just looked him over quickly so not totally sure but there will be pics later. If he WAS caught in the fence though I imagine that he will have to go to vet to get checked out even if we can treat the wounds here. Gotta get him looked at anyway. Man, he was all stiff and sore. Ok, gonna go take care of him now.

Don't have pics yet but I have never treated a "rub burn" before where do I start? Clean him up and then what. I think it will be easier with pics. Should I start a new thread?

On top of all this my hubby has the pickup and won't be home until 4:30pm at the earliest. I am trying to come up with someway to get him in to the vet. I will go get those pics.

Maybe hose off the sore legs, with cool water. I would not put anything on it, not wraps or creams or anything till the vet sees him. You could try some Bute if you have it on hand for the soreness. Sorry to hear your bad luck.

I would for sure cold hose his leg 20 minutes, at least 3 times during the rest of today. Let him stay out so he can move around unless he's really lame. If he's just stiff, the movement will help.

JB, I am going to respond to your comment on the other thread. Thanks, actually that goes for everyone that has advice about treating him. Please put it on the other thread. Feeding stuff can still go on here. Thanks...

what kind of Distiller grain are you using? Some of the stuff we used at the research center and some of the research I did on DG was high in sulfur. So careful on that. Be sure to watch that......
