When I went out to feed them last night I looked at her withers and they are sunken in a little bit. I didn't get any pics though. I ended up leaving work yesterday with a bad headache and didn't grab the camera.

So I guess that's why he wants me to bump up her feed, huh?

I will try and grab some pics this weekend.

I would not even go as far as to call your horse fat. She looks as though she is actually a little underweight and undertoned. Nothing a little exercise cannot fix. I wouldnt change anything except my training program for her if I were you. Good luck

Sunken withers on a horse like yours (in her condition) don't mean she's skinny, they mean she is lacking muscle. She is lacking muscle overall, not weight. Think of it this way - if you develop a beer belly but still have skinny arms, MORE calories aren't the answer. Exercise and PROPER calories are.

Ok...I think I understand now. This just reminds me that I have so much yet to learn.

Do you have an recomendations on some ground work to help build muscle??? I have about 30 to 45 min. in the evenings during the week before I run out of sunlight and on the weekends we will be able to ride.

To build up back, top line, and stiffles, you can do in hand or lung her over cavaleties in side riens, I am doing this with my mare sense she has lost muscle from being stall bound for a week from a bad reaction to a plant. Also palpate you mares ribs, can you feel them? are they very proment or almost not there?
