:( Not pregnant

Well, Desiree isn't pregnant. Dr. Vice said she will probably only take with a live breeding. He said that since we have had so many problems with Desi, that he would breed Angel for us for free. We said we would have to think about it. Also we spoke to the lady that sold us Desiree and she said we could bring Desi back and she would breed Desi for free, all we had to pay for was the feed for Desi. What do you guys think?

May - July is the best time for breeding due to the fact that the colt will come during the warmer months. I think your still okay depending on local climate. Go for it.

Does Desi's old owner even have a stud that you want her bred with? Free doesn't mean desirable.

Do you want Angel bred with the stud that you have semen for?

Why not see if you can take the Mare to one of the University Vet schools and let their reproduction specialist work with getting her in foal using AI shipped semen?
I would think that the Stallion owner would understand and be willing to work with you, especially if you were going to have the mare with specialists.

Breeding her to a local stallion simply because the owner offered to me is really a poor judgement call...especially if this was the mare that you were going to the expense to breed to Khartoon Klassic.

If she is worth the time and effort you put into locating a suitable stallion, plus the expense of the stud fee and AI fees...then she is worth the effort and expense of getting her to specialist to see if you can get her in foal to the stallion you selected and paid for.
As always this is just my opinion.....

If the previous owner has a stallion you're really interested in I'd say go for it. If not I'd explore your other options.

u dont want to wait too long into the summer to breed. u want the foal big enough when winter comes so it wont become sick easily. Fiona was bred in April and is do in march(late) or April(early) and if u put in heat lights in the stall it'll keep the foal warm.

In the case of an older mare or one with reproductive problems....
If you really want a foal from the mare it really doesn't matter when she has the foal as much as it matters that she actually HAS and healthy one!
If you have or have access to facilities that will allow the mare to foal in a warm, dry safe environment then you can be less concerned with when she has the foal. Still this is another thing to discuss with your equine reproductive specialist.

In this case, knowing how much thought, time and effort to select the right stallion for your mare as well as knowing who badly you wanted to get one last foal from your mare I would look into consulting an Equine Reproductive Specialist and working with them. It would not hurt to at least locate one and have a consultation. Not all Vets are as well versed and up to date on all they need to know when it comes to equine reproduction. Just like with human doctors sometimes you have to consult and even work with a SPECIALIST! This might be the case here with your mare.

Yes I do like Chazz. He is a really nice horse, and he and Desi have had some beautiful black foals together. The only thing I don't like is that the Arabian people around here write me and my horses off before they even see them because they don't know any of the horses in my horses pedigrees. Anyway... I like Khartoon too, and if Dr. Vice said she isn't going to take using AI, I believe him. He said our chances would greatly increase if we used a younger mare. We are still thinking about it. Chazz's owner said we should bring Desi up in October if we wanted to do it this year. She also said every time she bred Chazz and Desi, Desi got pregnant.

Have you considered taking her to a different stallion to breed her to live cover? If you don't mind a bit of a drive over here to Alabama I think you could find one that you might like that you could breed to live cover that would also put some "NAMES" into your breeding program and pedigrees
That is if you are interested.... :
