She might just not grow as long of a coat as other horses. As long as she's not shivering, she's fine. Does she have a shelter? If she's shivering but not in the shelter, she's most likely still fine. Just toss her some extra hay to keep her warm.

She won't freeze to death in those temps. Has she ever grown a nice coat before?

Also, just a note here - horses don't grow winter coats due to the change in temperature. It's the lack of light that triggers their hair growth. As the days get darker earlier, the hair starts to come in. That's why people leave the stable lights on until 10pm in the winter if they want to 'trick' the horse's system into staying in summer coats.

If she has TB in her, TB's for some reason, don't grow thick coats. Not all, but a good amount of them. Mine is the fuzziest he's ever been. But still no where near the rest of the horses. Something to do with the TB genetics not to grow. I dunno, just something my professor told me. But as a whole, I don't see too many fuzzy TB's.

Veruca did not grow a SUPER fuzzy coat (yet), she is fuzzy but not allot. She came from Vernon which gets much colder then here, but their bodies metabolize, you will need to feed more hay like Dawn said, but I would not worry too much about it.

QHgin, do you have a sheet for her? That will at least keep the real cold shock off. I satrt using as sheet when the temps go into the 40's, but my horse/s older and maybe a little indulged. I haven't had a cold-temp colic happen for years, tho.
