Not bad for 26 yrs old....

Sorry, but my old man just looked so great this morning and felt like posing that I just had to take his pic and brag a bit. Keep in mind, besides incisors, he has no teeth and two years ago, was as bony as a coat rack. His lease/care people's excuse was...well it's hard enough to keep weight on a TB let alone one that's so old.

I guess that would be true, if you didn't want to spend the money it takes to do things right. He came back home with me that very same day.

I bought him off the track, literally only hours after his last race, when he was just four. He was/is my very first horse.

What a nice looking man! Very well done with his body condition. Every horse deserves a chance.

He's beautiful. Isn't it awesome what can make the older horses eyes sparkle. I have a 22 year old and just the sight of me with oats makes him shine. We've had him for about 3 months and I never heard him make any sound until one day out of the blue he started nickering for his oats. I think he just rememberd how to do it...

What a handsome fella! You have done a great job with him, he looks like a wonderful happy, healthy boy! I would never guess that he was 26!

Here is a picture of him 10 months after I got him back from the lease/care and three months after feeding nothing but senior. He was so incredibly underweight, that we knew any huge changes would probably kill him. So from this pic, try and imagine what he looked like when I went to go pick him up. (I remember being so proud of THIS picture....now it makes me cry)

My old boy can only dream about eating oats....unless it's in the form of a fresh baked cookie. Really REALLY likes them....me too.

His BO's love him so much that they put carrots and apples in a food processor for him so he won't choke.
