Is it normal, my mare 6 months in foal but looks like she is dilating

Hi everyone, I am fishing for info. I have a thoroughbred mare 6 months in foal, to a lovelly big hanaverian stallion. Everything has been going great. Today I felt the foal kick for the first time. Fantastic a really good livelly session, So everything feels healthy and big.The mare is happy healthy and loving as usual. I was then checking the mare and noticed she looks dilated by about 2cm. I can clearly see the chanel. Normally I would say she is going to give birth, but she is only 6 months and the foal was kicking strong and healthy. Does anyone have any info on this. Is it normal, a friend says that older mares sometimes sag. She is 14 and this will be her first foal. If this is the case how do I stop infection in the next few months. It is scary but confusing. Everything looks and feels great, but her chanel is open. I can't see her aborting a kicking foal, or does this happen?Any ideas please ???

Sorry, I cant offer any help... I don't know if this is normal. I don't THINK it is, but I don't have enough experience in the field...

I know that people on here will ask for pictures, so if you could get some, that would greatly increase your chances of getting any suggestions.

But, as always... if you have any questions or fears- the vet really needs to come out and look at her.

I woulden't assume that she would sag just from age. If she was bred quite a few times and was old, then yes, I could see that. But not JUST from being old.

thanks, I will be getting the vet just thought someone might know something till he arrives in the morning, She is ok at the moment, I have never known this and thought the same as far as sagging and first pregnancy. She keeps putting her head in the kitchen window for food, so shes her normal self and does not seem bothered in anyway. I will let you know the outcome from the vet. I was looking for breeders who have seen all the strange things, as it was a breeder that said this to me.The vet not being available I drove to the local stud. This woman has over a 100 mares and 12 stallions and has been doing it for over 50 years and winning top breed show for years. I was shocked when she said it to me, just woundered if anyone else had heard of it..

Um...dumb question...but how did you see her cervix? Unless I am thinking in human terms too much, but you just cant see a cervix, and if you can then....

well I just dont know what to say?Maybe I am confused.

It can be normal for the vulva to look relaxed if it is a warm and sunny day. I am guessing that is what you meant be by dialated.

Are you talking abotu her actual cervix or just her vulva? If you are talking about her cervix I am very curious how you were able to see this. If you are talking about her vulva, this is normal.

Sorry I should explane..I have to check my mare as she is a bit of a dirty mare.Meaning her anus is set back and her vulva pretrudes. So I have to check her to make sure everythings clean. Here in England we have no heat problems so her vulva is never normaly slack. To all of you with new foals stomping around, congratulations and to those of you like me still waiting, fingers crossed
