no wonder I'm having saddle fit issues

I guess when you see a horse every day you get used to how they look and don't notice things anymore. I took a couple pics of my horse's back yesterday to help me on my saddle quest.. I was just looking at them and HOLY COW. The withers on this horse! I guess I've just gotten used to it. Too funny. You could ski down that thing.

*LOL* I couldn't ski down that...I'd fall down! Looks like a painful ride, if you like bareback.

I know you've probably tried everything, but... Mattes half pad with removable shims. Not a fix all, but if you can find a saddle that fits close you should be able to use a Mattes pad with shims to make it perfect.

Oy, I feel your pain. That's what my gelding's back looked like. I ended up getting a saddle (english AP) with an adjustable tree, and that helped a lot. It had a good fit- but not perfect- without special padding, and then I also used a lolli pad. However I wouldn't reccomend that because I think that 95% of the time they are a bad idea. Although honestly, most people on HGS disagree and say they are bad 100% of the time .

There are some good padding options out there though, so don't give up hope!

two suggestions:
get a square of foam rubber bout an inch thick and cut out around the withers
or sounds weird but if u can get toilet mats the horseshoe shaped ones and attach some elastic across the gap so they wont slip down.
