Here's a link for your feed company, if you scroll down, you will find the mineral and salt area. I would talk to your feed dealer ask which one compliments the feed you are feeding and go with that one. I would feed it to her in her stall, because if you feed it in the pasture with other horses you won't be able to tell if she is getting it. edit: Buckeye Nutrition: Horse Feeds Last edited by cminor; 08-28-2007 at 10:25 AM. We put feed quality salt on our hay as we stack it... just toss a few handsful around over each layer... to help it cure properly. So, we figure our guys are getting a little salt from the hay, since they don't lick their block very much either!! We have their salt block in a plastic tub under the overhang of the barn, and almost every morning someone has dragged the tub to the other side of the corral! No one has touched the salt block, it is sitting neatly in the tub. Ha. No idea what they do at night... ha. MINERAL they will eat! It sits in the tub they play with, too. BonnieM

Try talking to feed dealer they would know best, or maybe your bo might have an idea. the way that rationers work, which is what your horse is on is that they make up for what is lacking in their forage diet. So for there are two types of rationers, one for horses that are on grass and one for alfafa. What you want to get is the type that goes with the feed you are feeding. Do you know which one it is? Is it the Gro&win Alfa or just Gro&Win(grass)?

The ONLY salt that gets ate around my place, loose or not, is the pure white, the wildlife/birds are the ONLY ones that eat the other kinds. My endurance horse does not eat salt, doesn't like it, doesn't want it and will go out of his way to avoid most any and all salt. I think he gets enough from his feed and may be naturally geared to require less. I don't as a rule tend to hardly even elyte during 50 mile rides, he has almost 3000 miles and 9 best condition awards, so take that for what it is worth. My other horse, totally different blood lines, thinks salt is his own personal project to EAT, he eats it all the time. Go figure..... Probably a LOT of "genetic" influences we are not even aware of.

They have the little blocks that are the size of a big soap bar. I put one in the feed bin where they eat. As they eat their grain, they tend to end up getting some salt off of the bar whether they like it or not.
