Question No running away?

Kay, my colt, Marcus, has bucked me off a few times , every horse does....and when I did manage to fall off, Mark just turns around to face me and waits for me, while I'm just sitting on the ground . Or when we both fell flat on the ground, Mark stood up, shook himself, and waited forever for me to collect my nerves and get back on. He has never, ever ran away from me before. I have never ever had to walk home or walk anywhere for him. But yet, as most horses he walks away immediantly when i approach him with my halter.

Does anybody have any brainstorm ideas why he doesn't run away? lol

Not like i want him too, im just curious why he doesn't run while he's free and im on the ground...hehe.

Most horses will run if they are fearful or being naughty. You say he is bucking, but doesn't run after you are off...which hints to me, he may be bucking out of pain, and not fear. Are you checking to make sure your tack isn't pinching somewhere and causing pain? Or perhaps you are confusing him with conflicting aids and he's bucking out of frustration?

NO....he's tack fits in fine...i have checked it...i am fairly sure...since he is young...lol...that he is bucking out of fun..once time me and my sister were running in a field for fun and he took off and started bucking like a devil! I never fell off that time but he looked like he was there for fun...lol...its common for young ones to do that.

...but not acceptable. Allowing him to continue to do this will lead to dangerous behavior. Bucking, when not nipped in the bud, will often escalate very quickly.

What are you doing to deter him from this behavior? Falling off or bailing is a "reward" (they want you off, you come off). So you are in essence encouraging this behavior each time he is successfull.....

How old is the colt? How much training has he had? What type of work is he being asked to do?

Oh, don't worry, I do tell him "no" not to buck. He hasn't bucked at ALL in 2007. He his three years old, a huge colt, taller than average..reaching 16 HH easy and very thick. I always hopped back on him when I fell off (only three times in the year I have ridden him), and made him run again and harder work than usual. He did understand later on that bucking leads to hard work..hehe. He's had plenty of training...daily ground handling until he was 2, broke him in at 2 years of age, and I rode him at 2 1/2 years of age. I trained him. I know that many many people here do not agree in the way and age of horses I ride, but it is how I do it, and please do not argue, just let it pass, please. The work he does is walk, trot, and lope so far...nothing else. He's gonna jump in a few years and im not gonna ride him anymore then. I need a barrel racer...lol He's a good horse, a one in a million...

You say "no" not to buck.... how do you do that? You verbally tell him no? How do you react with your body?

lol. No i do not verbally say no...lol. But, i hope back on and make him do hard work...longer runs...faster....sometimes, if he wants to buck again, i use my crop to stop him (not quite hitting him...but tapping him so that he knows its there). My body...? I don't quite understand that...help me out here...lol.

Yes, your body is your riding tool. Do you use your leg to push him forward, you reins to change direction? You seat to drive him?

What is your BODY doing?
