Erlichia and babesia look pretty similar on blood smears.

Hopefully I'll hear from K-state today. I Overnighted blood to them. If not, it will be Monday that I hear something.

Or, if the equine vet finds what I saw, I can start treatment........luckily Blister is currently Stable for the most part.

Dawn, the only thing I could find on anything that could be causing the issues at toxic levels would be vitamin A. Vets highly doubt that is what we are seeing since his seems to be "chronic anemia" from what they are saying.

Could excess iron levels cause it?

no, consulted with several different types of vets. None say toxic iron will cause the anemia.

What we would see, would be elevated liver functions. COULD cause immune issues, however they suspect he may have been this way for a long time.

Still waiting on K-state. I have to get pics of the slide on Monday of what I am looking at. Rare to actually find what we think we saw.

Oh, Michelle!! Not again....

I'll keep checking in to see how he's doing. At least you are better prepared this time, having gone through what you did last year. I pray you've caught whatever it is in time and can start a course of treatment.
