Idiopathic Aplastic Anemia Causes are undetermined

Have you had your water checked? Ponds, Tanks? Well? These could also be a source. Flouride toxicity?

I wished I could help more and maybe these have been ruled out already but I gave it a shot!

Thank you for the ideas. Already visited and ruled out most based on Platelets. Which is the "odd ball factor" in this whole situation. Most everything causes Thrombocytopenia......however...he doesn't have it "totally". Platelets should go down along with the red cells. hence the "oddity". Makes every equine specialist head shake when they see it. They see the RBC and immediately say Iron deficiency or EHV, or similar....then they see the platelets and go HUH????

Cause their next words would be transfusion as low as he's been before. But his Platelets never bottom. they remain high. Heck, I'll take that over no platelets...that's for sure.

Flouride has to be "added" to this area as well as in Texas. And he's on well water where he is at. So I highly doubt that is a factor. He was on well water at the last place too.

Two separate environments now. Two Separate hays,

on my "blister watch" ......he looks good this morning. thought he was slightly swollen on the side of his face last night, but he could have wacked it in the pen. Cause it is down now. No purpura in sight right now. BO and her assistant are on watch so we can hit this fast.

My vet has made a few calls to some specialists she knows that might be very interested in pursuing this further since there isn't much out there on autoimmune disorders.

then this morning, I'm blowing through thoughts........am I over-reacting? has he BEEN Anemic this whole time? Will he always be anemic? his values were fine though in January, however he had finished off the red cell. Will he just always need the extra vitamins/iron???? And I am just catching the backlash from not having the Red Cell and the stress from moving brought on the wastage? But he gained in May, back was flat. June was when we moved him to the Old man paddock after noticing weight loss again. He was living with rough boys in the gelding pasture and not getting his grain at that time.

New Hay, new water, new home, new environment in comparison.

I'm praying he is just always going to be anemic and I just have to live with it and this isn't the calm before the storm.

Though it could still be environmental. It was last summer that this happened last time. Common weed that I might find in Northern Desert-type plains of texas vs plains full of trees Kansas.......Milk weed gave him blisters as a baby.......could he have found some more and it taking him to this point????

however if he has been autoimmuned all his life and I just lucked out most of the time.........and he's always been on the verge of this.....

I can deal with running preventative CBC's on him weekly, let alone monthly after I know this is it. I just can't go through it again.....I don't know if he could either....

Anyways, go to go drop blood off. I'm doing another CBC to compare AM vs PM draws as well as an internal health function to see if other numbers are going down.

Michelle, my thoughts and prayers are with you and Blister. You're catching these "off counts" so early, hopefully it'll never get to where it was last time--or even close.
Big hugs coming your way.

Myelodysplasia?

It could effect some but not all the cell types produced by the bone marrow, that may explain why platelets are ok, WBC and RBC counts are down.

Fingers crossed pulling for you both.

Michelle,
Are you still deworming him at short intervals? (I thought I remembered you saying that) I wonder how that would affect him if he does indeed have issues with his immune system.
