No 2008 Baby for Penny

We missed Penny two weeks ago, so we decided to short-cycle her once more to see if we could get her. Nope. On Monday, five days after her last prosteglandin shot, she had multiple small (10mm or less) follicles, but no dominating one. On Tuesday, the other two follicles were getting smaller while there was on 12mm, but nothing to breed to. We decided the Penny's body is telling us it wants a break, so we suctured her tears up from her delivery and she will remain open for now and we will try again in March or April of next year.

On the brighter side of all this, I'm going to try to get a working student position in Europe next year with my friend. Yippie!

Well, it's always good to give the mare a breeding brake. Hope everything works out for your working student thingy in europe!

Well, you know....mares you can't make them do anything when you want them to.

Sorry to hear there won't be a foal next year. Hopefully she will get back on track for you.

I'm sure she will. Starting nice and early next year means we won't need any prostaglandin. Au natural.

Sorry there will be no baby to look forward to next year but getting a fresh start in the spring is probably for the better.

Aw Suzie that's a bummer. Did you ever read that email I forwarded you with all those in-utero babies for sale?

Has Lutelyce (sp?) ever been suggested? It'll bring a mare into a "raging" heat and you'll get a very nice sized folicule. I had to use it with Fiona because we could never tell when she was in heat. That and she ovulates too fast...LOL

Awe my heart aches for Penny. Maybe you could let her be a nurse mare next season while you're away in the bright lights of Europe.

She was in heat where those small follicles were present, but they weren't suitable to be bred to. The vet is strongly thinking that it is just her repro tract shutting down for the season since it is August, after all.

Lutalyse is just a brand of synthetic prostaglandin.

Aww.. I am sorry. But remember, everything happens for reason! It just wasn't her time again yet.
