I don't have a cell phone at the moment, but my mom uses Nextel.

Basically, yes the Walkie-Talkie minutes are completely free. There is no distance limits or hours, etc. If I remember correctly, you can talk for free to anyone else that has a Nextel Walkie-Talkie as long as you have their phone number so you can connect. Connecting by Walkie-Talkie is also free by the way.

Nextel does have a limit/charge during the week and daylight, but you have unlimited minutes during the weekend and after dark, at least my mom's plan does. So if you do that one, you can talk to anyone for free on the weekends and after daylight hours so not a bad deal .

I have Nextel. If it says unlimited 2-way then you're walkie talkie minutes are free in your state. However if you're outside of the state you have to pay roaming to use 2-way unless you paid the $10 up front. Nextel is high compared to other companies, but it is the best in my area, and most of the people I talk to have Nextel so it's free to talk amongst us. I used to have Cingular and never had a problem with them until I moved to the West side of the state and their coverage in this area was horrible. I would just get whichever one has the best plan for you. Nextel 2-way is great, but it may not be worth the extra money for you. I think all of the cell phone companies will have 2-way eventually anyways.

I have Cingular, and I love it... especially since i have free mobile to mobile nation wide.... so if anyone I talk to has a cingular phone it doesnt cost me anything to talk to them.

Don't forget Nextel and Sprint have/are merging into one company. I have had Nextel for about 4 ...going on 5 years now. Unlimited walkie talkie (two-way) in the US, and 10,000 phone minutes per month- It costs me a little under $80 per month with a phone replacement/repair plan included (as I am an electronic serial killer!). Most of the fees that add up to that price are state/local/federal surcharges and taxes added on. But I have never gone over that price...and I almost never use my home phone (older house/old lines/cra.ppy reception)only my cell. I got a 10% reduction a year or so ago for being a "loyal customer". My best friend also has a Nextel (added her to my account because Nextel tends to charge a big deposit up front for some)and she pays a bit more....but has different features/plan provisions. **A lot will depend on Nextel's network or tower system in your area.....as to whether you will be happy....after last years trio of hurricanes.....phone service/tower problems etc....lasted for many MONTHS....and the customer service made having a root canal on your birthday seem like fun....grrrrr! I still experience a few "dead spots" in my two way service....in certain areas (not out in the boonies...just crazy spots like a 5 mile stretch along I-4 ). My Dad has Nextel and its kind of nice to "check in daily" with the two way (he lives 250 miles south), as do several of my friends. My hubby has had Sprint for years- he hated Nextel (the two way just doesnt work with the type of job he has...)and I guess with the Merger they will be the same company soon anyway.... He does have the camera phone...which is a pretty cool feature......(just ask Mona/lovemyshy LMAO!). Haven't dealth with cingular....but I am sure with any service there are pluses and minuses.... Whoever has the best plan for the best price with the best network in your area would be my choice....there are sites on the internet just dedicated to cell phones/the companies/and ratings of their service.....that might give you a good idea .....I am sure you could track some down with Google. Good Luck.

I have cingular. It's pretty good.

The only time I loose connection or what not is when i'm driving through the canyons. But, thats almost a given for any cell provider.

I had cingular for over 2 years and was extremely happy with their service. Then all of a sudden I wouldnt receive voicemails for HOURS after they were left. Almost got me into trouble a few times with my boss!! I called the company and was basically told it was because my phone had the "old programming" and they just redid and upgraded their programs and systems so I needed a new phone. I figured ok, fine, I wanted a new phone anyway. So I went in, signed a new 2 yr contract and bought a new phone. THE NEW SERVICE WAS WORSE!!!! I brought the phone back and flipped...told them I wanted my money back and to cancel my contract and that their new system sucked...that I couldnt even receive phone calls in my house in the city!

Im now with Verizon... I love it. The signal is better actually then cingular.
So anyway, thats my story about cingular lol.
