| Senior Member | Next Sunday is the first show for us
The worst of the clipping and banding and mane cutting is done. I had a heck of a time getting his ears, but after 15 minutes of rearing I finally got them trimmed. I banded his mane with my bandit comb-that things was a blessing since it locks in place and me moves around so much- it saved a lot of time. I did that yesterday just to be able to trim his mane somewhat and get it to lay flat this week then next saturday I will thin it and re-band it after his bath. His feet are trimmed-all his crazy curly leg feathers are gone and he has nice clean fetlocks LOL what a hairy mess!! It should work out ok thinning his mane after I've already shortened it don't you think? It's so dang thick and curly I really have some work trying to get nice straight bands.

Turning horses out for shows is a mission - it sounds like you've been working very hard. Your mane will work out ok if you thin it by pulling it without making it any shorter. I hope your show goes well - I'm sure you'll look great! |

Its generally easier to thin when its shorter for sure. Another trick, after a show I use scissors and I cut the bands out of Skips mane it helps thin it out a little bit.

Sounds like you really have a plan. My daughter's first show seems so long ago, and we were so nervous. But she and her horse won First Place, and it's been a **** shoot ever since. But it's a lot of fun and we've met great people. Good luck with the braiding.

I try to get everything done the saturday before, so this saturday will be bathing, banding, putting a sheet on him in the evening putting him in his stall. Thats why I don't want him done too early in the day he'll really be a pistol sunday morning if he's stalled more than just overnight. But I'll get the trailer loaded and make sure everything I want is already loaded up, hook up the truck and trailer. So all I will have to do Sunday morning is load him up and his hay and water and take off. I will be sure to post pictures after Sunday with the results.
