Newborn Safehaven

I am disgusted beyond words.

I heard on the news today that a pedestrian found a newborn in a plastic bag, umbilical cord still attached. Seems that the mother (if you can dare call her that) put the newborn in a bag and threw her over the wall near the railroad tracks. A 40' fall. They said the baby was alive when she was put in the bag.

Many states have the Newborn Safehaven law. So please, spread this around if your state does. I think states need to make it known and put it out there for more to know. They need to go to schools and educate.

In Ca. you have 3 days to drop your baby off at a Fired Dept or a hospital, no questions asked. Why couldn't this woman have done this. Now there is a sweet baby girl who will never know the love a mother can give because she's in heaven.

That made me tear up.

I'm in shock right now. I dont know how anyone could do such a thing! I'm not sure what laws New Hampshire has, but I'm going to look into it.

I know its terrible, That poor baby never stood a chance. It does make you wonder what kind of state the "mother" was in. She was either severely mentally ill or had problems emotionally, Mayb even had been threatened about the baby. Guess we'll never know. She must have been so frightened though. Surely noone does anything remotely (sp?) like that with no second thoughts?! What an awfull thing to happen.

I hope this woman see's a doctor if she's given birth unaided, There's any number of infections she herself could catch!!!

It's very sad. The authorities are looking for her. She will be charged with murder they say.

People have got to know about safehaven...there are too many barren women who are married and looking to adopt. It breaks my heart.

It's unbelieveable. It makes me angry when there are women and couples all over the world trying to concieve but cant. This women was blessed with the gift of a child and i hate to say it but she literally threw it away.

thats so sad...but i feel terrible for the mother as well. i saw this thing on 20/20 a while ago about a 16 yr old girl who ended up killing her child, and it was found 4 months later, and she finally stepped up claiming it was hers... it was a very sad story, she did a horrible thing, but she felt trapped, alone, scared, etc. That doesn't excuse her or what this mother did to their child, but it doesn't mean she's a bad person either.

At least now the baby is not in pain, I wish I could say the same for the mother...
