Newbie to Site

Hello All,

I'm new to the site and still rather new to horses. About 6 years ago my wife and I decided to move and buy some horses. We were greener then green but had some help from new friends and neighbors. After a number of bumps, bruises and breaks we are happy we made the change from bipeds to mounteds. I've seen there are a few folks who like Natural Horsemanship and some that don't. All I know is if it weren't for NH and trainers like Craig Cameron, Clinton Anderson, The Parellis and especially Chris Cox we might not still have our horses. I am currently in the midst of training a 3 year old gelding under saddle. He had a real good start with the girl I bought him from. She did plenty of ground work and introduced him to the saddle. I then took over and picked up the ground work and finally gave him his first rides. He is currently working in to the trails and I have had him out by himself. He's a great boy in that he doesn't shy and run from new things. He's very curious.

My wife and I live in Pennsylvania in Perry County. We are friendly with the local farmers and have permission to ride their tractor lanes as long as we stay out of the fields. We currently own 6 horses. 4 of the 6 were rescue horses. We sure didn't know what we was getting in to with these guys but I believe the experience has brought me closer to my horses then I otherwise would have been. The fact that I'm rather stubborn also helped.

I look forward to interacting with people on the forums and in chat.

Hi EdH welcome to HGS, be warned this forum is addicting and steals time away from your horses to talk about them with others!
So glad to hear that four of your horses are rescues. I have three rescues, though you could never tell to see or ride them. They were all a challenge in entirely different ways.
It is very satisfying to take something so wonderful that someone else just carelessly threw away and give it what it deserves, love, food, patience, and a safe peaceful existence.
Best of Luck to you on HGS and with your horses.

We have a menagerie of horses. Like I said 4 out of the 6 were rescue horses. Here's a list;
1. Thoroughbred Mare, 20 yoa, 16-2, 1250 lbs., My first horse, tattooed, named Tori, like riding an old comfy couch.
2. Morgan Gelding, 32 yoa, 15-1, 1000 lbs, Named Flash, retired from riding and gettin fat and happy, taught us a lot.
3. Standardbred Gelding, 17 yoa, 15, 1000 lbs, Speedy, broke down on the track, used for light riding only.
4. Arab/Foxtrotter Mare, 15yoa, 14-1, 1000 lbs, Chyna, wife's favorite ride, Barbi horse with attitude.
5. Tennessee Walker Gelding, 15 yoa, 15-2, 1100 lbs, Ranger, my current saddle horse, gets jealous when I take the 3 year old out to train and ride.
6. Thoroughbred/Paint Gelding, 3 yoa, currently 14-2, 875 lbs, Cody, curious and willing to please, been fun training and will have more fun developing.

Horses 1 through 4 were all rescue horses. 5 and 6 were private owners. None of the mature horses had been ridden for several years. 5 being the longest spell of about 8 years. We trail ride locally. Our jobs keep us close but for now it's not a big deal. There are plenty of horse people in the area. I'll post some pictures soon.
