A new update on Static with new pics - warning Graphic Wound Pics

These two are from the end of last week. . .

These are from Tuesday . . . .

He is healing slowly, but very well. I have been able to take him out on a halter and lead for short periods of time to eat grass, but have to bring him in when he starts trying to move around too much. He went for another check-up on Monday, and they had me change the bandaging technique. They had initially had me bandage him the way I explained before, but now want it different. They thought that the bulky wrap was causing more harm than good. It would gather and wrinkle in front of his hocks, and irritate his wounds. You can see the difference it has made already if you compare the first two pics to the last two. Now, I only use a non-stick pad, then the stretchy white gauze, then Elastikon. I think it will save a little money without all of the other materials, but it still takes 2 rolls of Elastikon, at $13 each. On the bright side, this bandage has been holding for three days at a time. He is wanting to buck and play in his stall a little, so he is feeling better. Hasn't been on Bute for almost two weeks. I can't wait until I can turn him out for a few minutes, but they still do not want us to force him to walk.

I can't take it anymore! I hadn't ridden him much in the last few months because I had one of our apprentice trainers working with him while I coached. It didn't seem to bother me much until Static got hurt. I put on 50 lbs since having the baby (now 21 months), and had quit competing. I had thought about giving up rodeo, and staying home to train the babies, but I don't think that I am cut-out for staying away from the action. Static was the oldest colt that I was training, and now I have NOTHING to ride. My next one in line is 18 mos. and we just started round-penning him. Won't be able to back him for another 4 months or more depending on his maturity. I am shopping for a seasoned, solid, top 1-D barrel horse if any of you know of one. I have decided to get back down to my competitive weight, and get back in the saddle, so to speak. I am tired of sitting the bench!
Sorry, I had to get that out.

Wow a huge difference!

He's still looking good to, not losing condition.

He is coming along well, those latest pics look great (as great as a wound of that degree of course)

Are the vets happy with his progress? Is he healing faster or slower than they predicted?

What a nice improvement, slow but sure you're getting there!
How's your foot?
Well if this accident has one good outcome, it was helping you realize what you want to do when Static is back in competing shape!

Thanks! The vets are pleased with how good it is looking, but still concerned about the tendon damage, and will probably be doing another ultrasound soon. I have to bring him in once a week for a while because they want to monitor the progress to judge just the right time to do the skin grafts. They look at him for an hour, then charge me $300! Every Week! If he was any other horse, he'd be donning furison(sp) and eating grass in the pasture by now! lol!

My foot is better. Took more x-rays, the tiny fracture is pretty much healed, but three of my toes are still broken. At least I can kind of walk now.

He really is healing well and fast. Or at least a lot faster then I was expecting. You are obviously such a good mum for him.

Here's hoping he keeps improving at this rate.

what a big improvement i am so happy for static. I was just thinking of him and was going to go look up to see if you had done another update. I will continue to pray for him.

I am so happy you have decided to loose the extra and get back in the rodeo again. You have all the suport you could need right here on HGS. I am wanting to get back in the sadle again and am on a diet myself. I have lost 28 inches off my body sofar, but have only lost like 9 pounds. Good luck!

Those pictures show a huge difference!! It's amazing how these animals heal! I'm so happy for you!

Best of luck on more progress for Static and on your decision to compete again!
