“New Training Techniques” should be implemented.

Many times recently I have heard of people being in need of professional training assistance with their horses. This is of course good for the trainers out there that depend partly on their income from dealing with “problem” horses. Many times a trainer can only do so much with modifying a horse’s behaviour, and physical capabilities though. Some horses can’t actually be what their owners wish them to be. Yes with enough work any horse can improve, but only to a point of THEIR abilities.
All too often “problem” horses return time after time to the trainers due to the same reoccurring “problems”. “My horse tried to kick/bite/attack/buck me off/etc, etc…..again.” And here is where we trainers must also implement a ‘new training’ technique.

By now you have a burning curiosity as to what my ‘new training technique’ is. Well it is that the owner/client that needs to be trained on how to communicate and handle their horse better. YES this is not a new thing by any means, but I had to say something to get your attention this far didn’t I.

Yes a lot of the time trainers DO train the owner/client as well. But it is the few owners who do not know enough about horses to deal with their horse/s, and instead send them to a trainer because the “problem” is out of their abilities, when in fact THEY are the problem!!! Then once the horse comes back after a period of time the “problem” seems to re-occur again and again. THIS is where owner/client training must be implemented.

We scold our “problem” horses when they do not listen to us. But who will scold the “problem” owner/client when they are the ones not listening to the horse!?!?! This ends up being the “Inter-species Communication, and Relationship Experts”, A.K.A trainers, job. The “I.C.a.R.E.” then has to forcibly impart knowledge and skills onto the owner/client, as they would with a horse. With the goal of teaching horse and owner/client to better understand and work with their horse.

Now humans being much more complex creatures mentally than most horses HOW could an “I.C.a.R.E. trainer” accomplish this task. Maybe by not returning the owner/clients horse, would work. Oh but, that is deemed to be theft/kidnapping. Or else long sessions on the end of a lunge whip. Oh but again that is determinable to be assault/battery/torture. Hmmm; now I have reached an impasse as to how to ‘discipline’ the owner/client. Well; at this point I must concede that there may be NO way for an I.C.a.R.E. trainer to discipline an owner/client for not listening, other than through their pocket book/purse!

This will be a tough technique to impart onto un-disciplinable owners/clients. And the only solid foreseeable solution is of a willingness on the part of the owner/client to listen, and learn.

But if this technique CAN be implemented just think of the Inter-species communication, and relationship advances that could be gained!!! Maybe BOTH horse, and owner/client should go to their “Inter-species communication, and relationship expert” for a ‘schooling’ session more often. Thereby building a better understanding between horse and horse-person, and thusly avoiding having “problem” horses all together!!!

Hmmm...looks like my kind of training. I love to teach the owner how to train their own horses, which in turns, makes them better overall.
