New stud colt

Well I finally brought my new stud colt home on the 19th. He is not registered but that don't make a difference to me. He is a Suffolk Punch/QH cross and he has great conformation. He will be going on two this summer but I most likely will no stand him at stud until he is three.

My biggest problem is how do I get him known. Not many people around here know what a suffolk punch is. He has the build of a suffolk but the head of the QH's. I know that a lot of people know the charateristics of the QH so that part would be easy. His mother was a champion reining horse.

So far the charateristics of the suffolks that I know is that they only produce sorrel babies (ranging in 7 different shades), they are very willing to work with you, they range from 16-17hh, and their conformation is very good. They are very stocky and strong.

I will post pics of him later once I get him calm enough to get some.

The best way is to show the horse, then advertise, but I am not sure if you are going to get many people interested since he is not registered and not purebred.

Not to sound cruel, but good luck

Ther is a small suffolk punch fan base here, but it is not huge. The fact that he is 1/2 QH and not registered, does not make him anything that other suffolk breeders are looking for.

If you are looking for other suffolk breeders to take notice, try draft horse shows. I doubt, with the QH blood, he has the movement and action for it though. They like super tall hitchy horses in the ring.

i really do wish you the best!

What are you going to promote him as? Haven't seen him of course, but I can't imagine what that cross would excel at. What would you be looking to cross him to? There's a such thing as having a good horse, then another of having a horse suitable to market for breeding.

I really cant imagine that sort of cross excelling well in BREEDING.. however I think as a gelding he'd make a fine little show horse or something.

Good luck with your colt, the best way it to publish him in a magazine....also quite costly...

Well the way I was more focus on was people that like grade horses. Don't get me wrong purebred aren't bad but I haven't had good luck with the either. I had to geld my last stud colt because he didn't drop right and he was a registered APHA colt. But my whole thing was for like people like me that there mare is not registered or generally for people that just want a good horse and don't care about registeration.

I just figured that suffolks are great natured and make wonderful horses that are willing to work with you. Really considering what he has shown me so far with his movements he would make a great dressage or western pleasure horse.

I just can't see that cross making a good dressage or western pleasure horse based on the likely confo. Not to mention that dressage movement and western pleasure movement is very, very different. Not saying that the same horse can't do both, but you normally don't look at a horse and have both of those pop into your head.
