| Senior Member | New Stubben bit... What do you think?
So i am going to the tack shop today to make some exchanges and i think im going to buy this bit. It looks really great for my horse becuase it has a curved mouthpiece for relieving the nutcracker effect, hooks for the reins and cheek pieces so that i wont ahve to use stupid bit guards anymore. What do you guys think? Here is the description that is on the website. The new Golden Wings bits from Stübben Steeltec are the ultimate safeguard for your horse’s mouth. Gentle, sensitive, and 100% pinchless, with no nutcracker effect. The revolutionary safeguard plates offer maximum protection to the delicate corners of the horse’s mouth while perfectly positioning the bit. In addition, they provide lateral stability to prevent the bit rings from being pulled through the horse’s mouth. 14mm mouthpiece. This bit creates a new rein effect that enhances communication by giving some of the benefits of indirect rein without bearing on the neck. It works directly on the lips and corners of the mouth on the turning side, while indirectly on the lips and bars on the side away for the turning hand. |

I have a std, nutcracker Partrade? version of that bit, never used it tho, too big even for Raps. Always thought it was a fascinating design, some float/give to the mouthpiece. I like that yours is a 3pc.

I like the whole idea of the wings. But does your horse need a gag? It is a from of a gag not a super harsh one but a gag none the less. If you don't need the gag then I'm pretty sure they make one without the hooks. I had a thread asking about bits like this a while ago. Not the stubben but the same cheekpieces. There's some good info on there so here you go: Anyone know this bit???? |

It looks interesting, I have a few stubben bits, but they are for a full bridle to be used in dressage...Cathy

Yeah, i have seen the ones without the hooks and was debating whether to get that one or the one above. My horse was ridden in a 3 ring gag for about three years because he is strong and fast and misunderstood. Right now he is being ridden in a simple JP korsteel loose ring and is doing well but gets very strong when jumping. There is another horse at the barn that has this bit but it is a straight mouthpiece bit (the classic wonder bit design) and when i tried one on my horse the other day he freaked out becuase he has been so spoiled with a curved bit. Anyway, i really cant decide on either one but i figured since i live so close to the store (5 min away) i mine as well just buy the one with the hooks and if it doesnt work return it. |

Well, I decided to get the plain snaffle without the rings so hopefully that works out! It was just so hard having a bit that you had to have bit guards wtih becuase he would get super annoyed when they accidentally slipped into his mouth during bridling.
