new project horse

So we are getting a new mare in and she will be my project horse! She will be here this friday! GAH i'm so excited.

I don't know much about her yet, she is a donation to us but heres what i know about her:

6 or 7 years old
Beautifully painted
mare
extremely green broke, just been rode around bareback as a back yard horse has no saddle work and i don't think she's ever had a bridle on either as they just ride her with a halter and lead rope
has foaled recently and friday is the starting of the weaning so she will be extremely cranky and not a happy horse :P

So i think i'm just going to work and see what ground manners she has first and go from there and when i do start with the saddle work i'm going to use a hackamore for sure

I'll get pics for you soon!!!!

Ok, well she came like 2 1/2 weeks late oh well lol

but she was well worth the wait she is so super sweet and is the type of horse that just wants to please. We are really starting to form a bond and she nuzzles on me alot. I have renamed her Ryver (pronouced like River) due to the beautiful markings on her legs that look like rivers lol My friend says it looks like the panama canal

ok, now for the pictures!!!!!!!!!

My beautiful new girl

close up on her face...she has dew poisoning but we have the medicines to take care of that!!!

dew poisoning is when your horse is pastured in really wet conditions and since our area has had alot of rain the moisture from the grass and w/e area she was is has dried out her poor little nose and it has just gotten real bad and started cracking and bleeding a little bit, but she's gettin better

ok so i lunged her last night! She did amazing on the right lead, but when it comes to the left she just trys to come up and snuggle with you LOL silly girl! so after about 20 minutes of lunging and what not I walked her around the barrels and she didn't spook once! She barely looked at them and just went around them perfectly!!!! then i took the lunge whip and rubbed her all over with it and she didn't twitch an ear at it, and actually started falling asleep! So then i took 4 lead ropes and draped them all over her including one hanging over her ears and down her nose and again she didn't move a muscle and just stood there looking at me like i was some kind of nut case LOL So then i took an empty soda can and crinkled it by her ears and i was expecting some kind of reaction from her but NO nothing she just looked at me like i was crazy LOL she is doing amazing and i'm going to start introducing the saddle probably tomorrow! OMG, i'm so excited but of course i forgot my camera when she was giving me those hilarious looks but DON'T WORRY because when we get the saddle on her there will be pictures!

ugh, i can't get over how much i love her and how proud i am of her!

also, she picks up her feet great too!
