New mustang mare!

I have two questions in the next post if you read through this one. It explains about the questions.

My neighbor, Jennifer was offered a mustang mare to board and ride. The woman who owns this mare just wants to use her for breeding, so she told my neighbor that she could keep her at her house and ride while she's pregnant. This woman works at our local equine hospital.

The story about this mare...... She was brought in a couple of months ago. She, Shady, was being boarded at the riding stable down the road. It was the first of two incidents, someone left the horses' gate open and three got out. Shady was one. One was euthanized on the scene. One went to our animal control and Shady ended up at our equine hosp. She had been hit by a car and went over the hood, but considering... she only sustained minor injuries. Minor meaning pretty bad, but could have been so much worse!

Her owner was unable to pay the vet bill, so the woman that works there told her she would have her fixed up. Well, Shady is almost all better. I went down to see her yesterday with Jennifer and was pleasantly shocked! I was told this was a dapple gray mustang. I was expecting a very small mare, shaggy coat...... Well she's huge! I can't describe her, but we're going back down to see her in a few minutes and I'll take some pictures.

Sorry it's so long, but I thought it was a neat story!

Shady, gray mustang mare, age? haven't heard yet

I added pictures to the original post.

We have a few questions. When we started cleaning her hooves, she gave a little trouble, but not bad. When Jennifer, my neighbor, tried to do her back hooves, she kicked out and wouldn't let her pick her feet up. She might be doing this because she's still a little sore, the vet's wife said she's been sore on her left hip. What should we do, to clean her feet safely?

Also she has an issue with cars. Which is totally understandable. I think if I got hit by a car, I would be afraid of them! Would it be too much stress on her to put her in my neighbors stall down the street a few hours a day? His yard is right on a corner, so there is a lot of traffic going by all the time. She would be in a stall, so shouldn't be able to get out or hurt herself.

Shady is gorgeous!! She is about the same color as my mare - a little lighter by the looks of it. The minis are cuties! How tall is Shady??

We're going to try and take a height/weight tape and see if we can measure her. She looks to be about 15.2 maybe 15.3 hands tall and I have no idea about her weight. But she is understandably a little freaked and stressed right now. But we can tell she is a sweetheart! When we got her out yesterday, she was jumpy and I started having doubts about if she was going to be worth it. But then she settled down and we started making friends.

It was so cute. My neighbor gave her a piece of apple to eat and she wouldn't, so I got it and pretended I was eating it and then she wanted it!

I think once she's at my neighbors house, in the quieter enviroment that she might do better. I hope (fingers crossed)!
