I know time has passed, but maybe you should get a vet out there to look at her. That does not sound normal. It certainly does not sound like something she decided to do to get out of being ridden.

Which is why I said...."If the vet finds nothing wrong"

Tying up or PSSM came to my mind. So I dont know what it would be. I hope that doesnt happen again. I bet your daughter was scared.

Thanks everyone for your replies.

Well I think we have found out what is wrong with her. My ferrier came over today to look at her and determined it probably WAS in fact her feet. I guess her old owner was the person who trimmed the horses feet and did a VERY poor job of it. He ended up causing more damage then good, if I can remember correctly he said she (Lacy) now has no heels and the guy trimmed her outside back down way too much so when she was carrying my daughter it was just too much for her to bear and she went down.
The only way I can think of explaining it would be, you have a person that is walking on the outside of their foot instead of the flat sole part, and looks like they are going to go over on the ankle and twist it everytime they take a step.
I do have pictures but I am unable to convert them to the right size so I can post them. Right now they are too big.

Poor girl. This is why I always cringe when I hear that people are trimming their own horse's feet- I just pray that they learned from someone who knew what they were doing and didn't decide one day to just go hacking away at their horse's hooves.

I'm glad you've narrowed it down, but I might have something else for you to keep in mind. I trained a mare who could not be ridden while in heat. As soon as she was cinched up, she would try to lie down and she would want to lay down through the whole ride. Turned out she had very painful cycles and needed medication to help her through them, which did work and then she'd be fine. But other than that, it was pretty well impossible to tell she was in season. Hope you get it all straightened out.

Her old owner said shw was fine when in heat, could tell no differance. Was fine to be ridden and all. But then again it sounds like they didn't know much when it comes to horses, just look at what I'm dealing with now.
