but I'd run a hair (now saliva) analysis on her. Cruz's anxiety and bad attitude is greatly diminished. My only regret is not doing it sooner. I don't get it, I don't know how it works, I don't want to know how it works, but it did.

Does take 6 weeks to get results back though. In the mean time I'd do exactly what you're doing and try the Ranitidine (I actually tried that with Cruz too).

Was she getting alfalfa before? Is it the same food? If not, what's the protein before compared to the protein now? I have had a couple go bat-sh!t coocoo on alfalfa and/or higher protein.
The going bonkers has NOTHING to do with Protien and more to do with either a sensitivity to an ingredient or the NSC level of the ingredients

Do you have a website for that? It sounded really interesting.

No, she wasn't. The only thing that she is getting that was the same is her oat hay (and I guess the grass hay, but she was getting timothy and now orchard).

I'll go look up the other thread-- Dawn or PeggySue did a breakdown for me LOL. I don't know exactly how much alfalfa she is getting right now, so I'd have to talk to my BO.

She's not super high energy, but she DOES have energy. Maybe I'm just used to neurotic TBs so this could be "crazy" for this mare

Peggy, I had one that went bonkers if you raised the protein at all, no matter how you did it. Maybe there was something in common with every single thing we tried, dunno. Struggled with it for a long time and tried everything we could think of. The only solution for him was a low protein diet.

I've had multiple tb's that cannot have alfalfa at all without bouncing off the walls. But, if she does have ulcers, the alfalfa is better for it. So kind of a double edged sword at the moment. I'd be more likely to try the Ranitidine first and see.. then if that's not helping, go through one thing at a time.

No there's not a website for the analysis, but I have contact info.

In that case, what would you recommend switching to/from? Still try to get that darned 12%? I may just have to pay that darned inflated price...

I've dealt with plenty of TBs who need reeeeally low levels of alfalfa, which is tough because Southern California just loves feeding alfalfa. I just don't know if this is the same deal...She's not chomping at the bit GO GO GO GO like the TBs on too much alfalfa that I have worked with. She's just...sour.

Shannon try this take her off of everything except hay and maybe some hay cubes/pellets at feed time and give that about a week to see if she settles any... if she does then you knwo it was the TC LIte causing the issue if she doesn't try removing the alfalfa from her diet ...

I wonder what the NSC is on Oat Hay BRB

I think that's the plan. I may order some Vit B from SmartPak before the free shipping code expires just to have on hand anyway.

Oat hay is around 22% Sugars and Starchs
alfalfa is around 11%
Grass hay is around 18%

hmmm I know with Sas if I increase the sugars and starches at all she gets alittle silly on me

Hmmmm....I think I remember going through this with Queen like 5 years ago. I remember finding out that the oat hay was probably worse for TBs than the alfalfa.

The other name for oat hay IS "grain hay".....

Would it be a good idea to take her off the oat hay and onto almost entirely alfalfa?

if it's ulcers she'll be a lot happier, tummy-wise, with the alfalfa.
