New Horse Checklist?
Does anyone have a new horse checklist? I'm freakin' out because I keep thinking I'm forgetting something!!! The boarding barn has all the stable supplies (buckets, haynets, etc.)
what am I forgetting!? lol! Sorry, I'm pulling this all off the top of my head, going through the daily routine and remembering what I need. New horse comes at the end of next week!
- Saddle pad
- performance boots
- shipping boots
- bell boots
- grooming supplies
- grooming tote
- first aid kit
- fly spray
Any Saddle "Detatchables"

depends on the horse of course, but:
Okay, I'm getting a new saddle really soon....I have the girth, helmet, reins, bit, etc. They have saddle racks at the barn. I do need detangler...umm I have a crop...lunge line, need that! Umm...i dont think i need a lunge whip....hoof oil need it...
Thanks! Lol sorry, I was kinda thinking outloud....
Lunge whips come in so handy!! If they don't have any at the barn, I definitely suggest you get one!
Are you stocked up on hay and other feed and any supplements you plan on feeding? As well as feed bins.
Whats in your first aid kit? The most important thing.
Rugs if you plan on rugging, fly veil, thats all I can think of without going out to my feed and tack shed.
Spare hoof picks (wrap strips of bright tape on them to identify)
leg wraps (and cotton wraps/pads for underneath - more of a first-aid item)
a few rolls of vetrap (good for a wide range of things!)
First aid kit for you & the horse
Dry erase board for your tack storage area
Laminated phone list - vet, farrier, barn manager, trainer
horse rags (for general horse cleaning)
Towels (for drying wet horses, or a wet YOU)
Flash light & batteries - you won't need it, until you DO
I have a tall tack locker, so I have room to keep a few extra convenience items that I really value:
Big jug of clean (drinkable) water
plastic drawer box with "tools" (scissors, pliers, twine, 3M hooks, tape measure, plastic bags, etc)
Even though our barn provides most barn maintenance items - I still went and bought a few of my own:
supplemental feed storage bins
A toy: Lic'N Spin & Pony Pops http://www.ponypops.com/
Good luck with your new horse!!!
The barn has a lunge whip that I can use, but I might just go ahead and buy one, they're not much and they are useful.
I have all the feed and supplements worked out, and they have hay at the barn, as well as hay from her previous home for a gradual change.
I'm not sure what I'm going to do about blankets yet. She doesn't wear a rug, but I'm thinking of clipping her which means I will have to get her a turnout and stable blanket. I'll wait to get a fly veil in the summer.
umm...I think that will be a good start, then once she gets settled in, anything else I'll need to buy I can get. Anything else you can think of? I have all the apparel I need for now also.
Thanks Honeydoozy! Hmm...I think a trip to the tack shop is in order!
What about fly spray? (Sorry if someone mentioned it earlier). Actually it's usually over-priced. Make your own.
