New Donkey

He isnt really a rescue because I paid for him but thought I would let others know about my newest baby!!

He is halter broke only, really iffy about his legs being touched and is head shy especially around his muzzle or nose.

My new project and companion for my mini!!

His feet are horrible, he is walking on the heel on his back feet.

I just wormed him, it was easy to do.

I have him separated from my mini and he will be for at least 14 days.

Ive never had a donkey before so any and all critiques and advice are more then welcome. He is suppose to be a mini but I seriously doubt he is. But he still has a forever home with me!!

Heres some pictures!!

Isn't he adorable? I just love donkeys!!!! Wait until he starts braying at you everytime he sees you or is hungry. Mine just cracks me up whenever he brays. LMAO

Have fun with him. They are a blast to have!!!!

ETA: I just looked at the pics again....is he foundered? Mine is severly foundered in his front legs. They do great on just hay....they don't need feed.

looks like someones been trimming him like a mini horse vs. a mini donkey. Make sure you find a good donkey farrier.

What a cutie. It seems they have quite distinctive personalities too. The braying cracks me up. I met some folks that had one that was a great alarm system. It would bray anytime someone came in the driveway. They're good at chasing off unwanted 'critters' too. Very nice for driving. Enjoy the little guy.

Blazing double hockey sticks, he made me cry!!! Lil ****** came right up to me and let me scratch his forehead!!

He is going to need tons of work done on him to gentle and get to the point a farrier can do his feet.

I don't have a pen for him yet so he is on a 30 foot overhead lead line. He has plenty of room to walk around, lay down etc. I am hoping by next week I can get it done. Will have both grandsons until next Tuesday and I cant do anything until then. I will walk him everyday to the back of the property and back to the front. We will both get our exercise then!!
I am sooooooo happy I got him. The owners cared for him just didnt have time, their loss my gain!!

Hubby says if I get one more animal he is going to make me quit smoking heheheh. Since Im not ready to quit yet I will stop at him heheh

Donkeys, burros and mules, don't founder as easily as horses. He looks like he's just not had the trims he needs.

He's adorable. I have a pair of jennies and they are skittish but love to be scratched. Dont' be surprised if he comes up to you and swings his butt toward you. They like being scratched on the butt most and the first one I had did that all the time. It did make me worry at first til I knew what he was after. I have to have my girls tranqed to get trimmed and even then I get dragged around the stall. Same with my old boy. Seems donks are way more protective of their feet than horses are. I think the spotteds are really pretty.
