Thumbs down Neighbors horses. HELP (long)

Okay today all of my neighbors horses got loose and ended up in my yard.
This person doesn't stay where the horses are(across the street from me.) he actually lives in town and come out every couple of days to give them water.

Well when they got out today(not the first time... or the second) they were out in my second pasture where i had left the gate open.
I just put this pasture up and it meant to feed my guys till sept. so i went out to catch them and put them back and low and behold the only pasture he has that can hold these horses he took the gate off to use somewhere elseso i had to go hunt up the gate since i knew if i put them in the one they were in they would just get out again so i had to have my not horsey friend hold them(bless her soul) so i could.
And we live less than 1/4 mile from the highway. it wouldn't be as bad if they just came over here.

thats not even the part that has me really miffed. That is that they've most likely never been wormed(from the look of their coats and poo)
and their feet are so bad i wanted to cry. ones chipped so bad they look like the should be bleeding and ones feet are about 10 inches long. and one is cracked up to 2 inches to the top. and the 2 (maybe three year old) is probably pregnant. oh thats not the best part but the 2-3yo stud that is more than likely realted to her!

I need some advice as to what to do. i want to go over there and yell and scream and throw the biggest fit of my life. but i know that would be innapropriate. please talk some sense into me. help me talk some sense into the man who has these horses.

I would call the sheriff and let them know a horse has showed up at your house and you need it removed

Let them deal with it.

I second the motion. I had to have animal control come and get 2 horses from my yard. The owner refused to feed them and I had food. They showed up 4 days in a row. The 4th day I called AC. One of her horses went back to the person she bought it from and never paid, the other was taken away and re-homed. Let the professionals take care of it.

Good luck.

In my experience, by the time the sheriffs get around to showing up for a non-loose animal call, the pasture will be eaten down.

Now, if you want to shoo them out of your pasture and call because they are heading for the hiway, you will get a quick response and depending on how much danger the horses put the community in, the owners coudl suffer quick punishment.

I agree that the law needs to be called on this one!

I agree, we have some neighbors that do this. We put their super thin horses out with mine just to keep them from getting hurt. They had been loose for over a week. We kept them for a week, we had no way of getting ahold of the owners and they lived in another town. When they FINALLY came out to check on the horses they went into my pasture while I was not home AT DARK to get the horses. My neighbor called me to let me know what they were doing. I was flipping out, didn't want them to let MY horses out (because apparently they don't know how to use a gate.) Then they bring me a $6 bag of feed a few days later? I was like thanks.... Horses got out again a couple weeks later (they have no grass and they do not give them hay/grain) and we just left them loose. Mares were pregnant (couldn't tell at the time because they were so thin) and now they look awful. Why breed horses if you aren't going to have anything to do with them?

I'd leave them loose and call the authorities.

As soon as you see those horses call 911. A horse loose on the road is bad.
Imagine one getting struck by a car and innocent people getting hurt.
Can't the SPCA do anything??

Well they were loose again when i got home today. only 2 tho so it was easier for me to put them back.

I would like it if icould just knock some sense into him so he knowws that he doesn't know anything. i dont want to call the authorities if i dont have to. if it happens one more time i will if i haven't been able to convince him to give up his ranch "Dream" i want to convince him to get the horses feet done by a professional. and get them shots, and wormed, and gelded or just sell them all or give them up. I asked him about one of the fillys)the one i think is pregnant now) and he said he wanted more than 1000 for her. shes not that great. i was just gonna use her for trail.

I know that you don't want to call the authorities, but I would asap. That guy isn't going to learn anything... Those horses are just going to get worse if left in his care. Also, if they [the authorities] don't do anything the first time, chances are it will happen again, and then there will be proof of such a thing happening. What I mean by this is that they have written proof, you're not just saying "this has happened such and such times.." Do what's best and get them seized. It's sad when things have to come to that

Document everything! Take photos of them in your yard with a camera that puts the date stamp on them. I would worry about you handling them to "take them home", I know you shouldn't have to, but you could be blamed for injuring them. You just never know these days! How are they getting onto your place anyway? Are they taking the fence down, jumping over??
