| Senior Member | Need some creative people
Hi just need some ideas!! I need to build a shelter for my two horses each in seperate paddocks but got no money so need to go as cheap as possible. My dad has tin and some old timber lying around the property and somehow I was going to incororate the shed in with the trees. Any ideas my poor babies are getting wet. |

Incorporationg the trees into the shed is really a bad idea. If they are still growing, they will eventually cause damage to the shed but in the meantime the horses may end up chewing on them and damaging them or killing the trees.

A just cover shelter takes 4 poles and a couple 2x4x and some tin for the roof and you can have a quick covered area. then as you get more money you could add tin to one side at a time until it is covered on three sides and there you have your run in shelters.

Since they are in separate pens, take the corner of their combined pens and build it across the fence. Basically put one side on one horses side and complete the shed on the other side of the fence. Basically, for that big of a run in, I would use 6 poles/2x4's or 4x4's for support. I would also use a 2x2 or 2x4 for a runner along the top and side, to help stabilize the run in and to give something to nail/screw into for the tin. Tin is fine for a shelter. You can paint it too pretty easily to make it look better in the future. But at least put up the roof, you can add sides as you go if you don't have enough tin, but if you do have enough tin for at least one side and a roof, do the side that the wind blows from the most at this time of year. Then in a few weeks, buy some more tin or look in the Thrifty nickle for more used tin you can nab up cheap to finish a part of the shed, little by little.
