Need home

Owner is willing to pay transport (I think) if anyone is willing to give him a home. Below is the email he sent me today. I have asked for pics and copies of xrays also.

Thanks, Litia. I'll try to get you all of the information.

I think our gelding is about 6 or 7 years old. He is part thoroughbred and part Hannoverian. (Sire is Graf Top II). At this point he is green broke. With the exception of the lameness and pneumonia at 3 months, he has been completely healthy.

His current problem is a navicular cyst in the right front foot. This is a congenital growth defect . The cyst is not easily reachable for surgical treatment. We did a low nerving to see if that would relieve the pain which comes on from exercise. . At the same time we attempted a stem cell transfer to the cyst to see if some remodeling could occur. Nerving seemed to be a reasonable action as there is no particular arthritis or degeneration involved and we would not be masking repetitive degenerative trauma to the foot.

We waited about 9 months. So far there has been no improvement in the lameness. (The lameness is intermittent and only occurs after exercising. It is due to stretching of the extensor tendon which rubs over the cyst (which sticks out from the navicular) during walking and stretches it causing some inflammation. We have not worked with him enough to know if this soreness would eventually improve (ie. the tendon might stretch.). I think it is now over a year since the surgery. He has basically been confined to a stall. My financial situation has changed and I can't afford to work with or keep him any longer particularly in consideration of his present inability to be worked or ridden.

I'll ask around and see if I can find anyone interested. Is he down your way?

Yes. He is at a show barn in Rancho Santa Fe. Hence the reason they need to find him a home.
