Post Need help with Neck Reining

Hi.. I'm a 15 year old girl who owns 2 horses.. one is a 25 year old Morab that I've been riding for a good 7 years but about 2 monthes ago we bought a new horse a 7 year old Arabian/Quarter Horse (oh I might add here I'm VERY into western riding) that does NOT know neck reining I've tried everything but she just doesn't seem to grasp it.. any ideas?!?!

Well, language seems to get in the way a bit
IŽll try to explain:
You can first teach him to go where you put your weight. when he obeys to that, you can add the reins. Thats what I do with english-horses I train for western.

Morgana's advice is best, but if for some reason that doesn't work, this is the other way that works sometimes. Signal a turn to the left by applying pressure with the rein also apply the opposite rein to the neck. So basically you're doing both types at the same time. Gradually you will eliminate the one that you do not want. Of course this takes much longer than the previously suggested method, but different things for different horses. Also, what type of western riding do you do? It might be best to just stick with what he knows.

I want to get into reining & calf roping.. which needs neck reining.. she listens a lot to leg commands.. but when given just a leg command it takes her awhile to turn.. and I've tried the neck reining/2 hand reins.. it does take awhile.. that's why I was asking if anyone has any other methods

Unfortunately this is something that is going to take quite a bit of time. If she moves off your leg well, I'd stick with that. Just give it time.
