Neck-reining

Theres a fun show in June that im going to, and i want to do WP w/t, and Egg and Spoon. I was thinking, wouldnt it be hard to turn your horse w/1 hand, when they dont know how to neck-rein.....Soooo, can someone help me on how to train Annie to neck rein? Would i be able to get her at least turnable by neck-reining by June? If you know any websites that explain it good, please post it!
*~Thanks~*

My daughters gelding came to us as a direct rein horse, and to teach him to neck rein, my daughter and I would make sure that the opposite rein would come across his neck whenever we would direct rein him, therefore giving him both cues, one he knew, one he didn't. In the beginning, my daughter struggled with this, but eventually caught on, just as Frosty did! It did not take him long, riding for at least an hour, 3 times a week, he had it in a month. He is a very smart horse, very eager to please. He now goes both ways with no trouble at all.

Moving off of your leg is a big factor. If your horse will move off of your leg without gaining speed then transitioning to neck reining shouldnt be that hard

Before your horse can neckrein properly, he has to be able to move off your legs at all gaits. Then, just like blakhawq said - you start giving the "new" with the old... and go from there.

Not necessarily turning. When I put my heel on Felix's side he moves his body away from my leg which is causing the pressure. Its almost like pole bending without reins Its hard to explain maybe someone else can explain better.

I'm gonna say it this time.... go get some riding lessons or a trainer! I'm glad you're asking, but the internet should NOT be your only source of information. It's really looking like it IS your only source of information recently.

Go tell your parents to be responsible parents and get you some hands-on help!

How can you ride in order to make your horse's job easier for them?

Yea...im having training centers next month.... But i was just see'ing if there was anything i could do untill the training centers. (I'm not sure if the training center im going to teaches you how to train your horse to neck rein) (We dont have enough money to pay for gas and we dont have a trailer. I only know of 4 farms around here...but there not very close to me, and i know 3 of them dont teach neck reining)
