| Senior Member | nature's essentials feed?
The woman at my local feed store recomended this feed (nature's essetials previusly called born to win I believe) and was wondering what other people had to say about it. I have a 5 year old mare that is recovering from lead poioning that needs extra feed. I also have two mini's that I drive although not on a regular basis. I also may be buying a 9 year old marab mare to do endurance with. I don't usually like feeding grain, but my horses only eat hay, no grass, and I would like to feed them something that would help give them the nutriants that they need and would normally get from grass. Anybody use this feed? Have any thoughts on it? |

it sounds like it may work well for you. I have a lot of non-bred mares and a gelding that is not ridden, so they are just on free choice grass, hay in the winter that i don't grain. ( mature horses generally don't need grain if they are fed good quality hay or on grass ) I do feed it to my yearling and my bred mares, and have been very happy with it. if they need extra weight, I add BOSS, Flax, or Rice Bran.

I just started my guy on it probably about a month ago, and I like it. I put him on it because I wanted to make sure he was getting all the vitamins/ minerals he needed (previously he was not). If the feed plan works now, why change it? What did the vet recommend for the mare recooperating from the lead poisoning? If you do a search for ration balancer you'll see a lot of info on the product...i know I had started one about a month ago too. Since it is a Purina product, it isn't everyone's favorite, but my understanding is that it is one of their better products. Purina is all I really have access to. P.S. Not trying to be a snot by telling you to do a search...that's just how I learned a lot about the different products. Sorry I'm no more help for your individual situation. Born to win is now called Enrich 32 I believe. It's from purina and is part of their nature's essentials line. It is a ration balancer which would work in your situation. There is tons of info on ration balancers on this forums. You might want to take a look at this thread: Ration Balancer Reference Thread. Before getting Born to Win it might be a good idea to see if one of the other slightly better ration balancers are available to you.

Nature's Essential's is Purina's supplement line. The specific product you're refering to is Enrich 32. It's not a grain, so that should make you feel better. Think of it more like a power packed vitamin mineral supplement that is designed to compliment a grass based diet. Having said that, I would suggest looking into similar products from other companies first. But if this is your only choice, there's nothing wrong with it (just a couple that I would prefer over this one). And to wrap it up, I have fed Born to Win for some time, and just bought my first bag of Enrich 32 the other day. But I'm also looking to switch to a similar product by Progressive (I just have to justify driving the extra distance to get it). |

I have my horses on it. They have been fed Enrich32 for about a month, and seem to be doing very well on it. It is really the only one that is available to me. I am waiting to see if they keep their weight and overall health for the long term. Only time will tell.

For the most part the natures essentials seems to be the best of what my feed store has, but I have only done a little research so far, and when I asked the woman at the feed store what kind of feeds they had similar to equine senior (what I feed now and what the vet recomended along with rice bran and vitamin E but my horse was also serverly under weight at the time) and she recomened the natures essentials and said that she fed it and liked it. I have tried reading the thread on ration balancers several times and really I don't understand most of it, so I decided to see what my local places carry first, and then get recomendations from people who have used them. My closest feed store keeps telling me that they only carry equine senior and LMF, but I don't if they understand what it is that I am looking for. The other feed store that recomended the natures essentials, carries a bit more, the this one was the best at the lowest price. |

I have been quite happy with Born to Win, now Enrich 32. I feed it to 3 horses and they have done quite well on it. I wouldn't have any problem suggesting it for horses that don't need lots of energy for performance. And for the performance horses it may work if you supplement with a fat--oil, weight gain supplement, etc and feed the ration balancer at the 3lb max that is recommended for light work.
