Please oppose NAIS, the fear and oppression is already beginning. People are becoming afraid to sell horses and other livestock because of harassive messages towards them. People who oppose NAIS are beginning to recieve harassive letters and phone calls because they oppose this act.
At the moment even being anti-NAIS advocates, should not make a person fearful of seling an animal to a person from a certian state, because at the moment you are NOT breaking any laws. The moment we become fearful of selling, or will take a loss at selling because we don't want to allow an individual from a certian state on our property is the time we have all lost our freedom of life, liberty and the persuit of happiness and that is totally scarry. If you just don't want that individual on your property to see all the animals you have, then do what I do, Make arrangements to meet them part way on their travels. At the moment I have no problems calling my local livestock inspector to come over to my house and inspect any of my animals for a hauling permit as has been required by state law for generations. So what if my brand inspector works for the State Department of Agriculture. I guess I'm not as spooked as most people because my state isn't interested in pushing the animal ID and won't until it is mandatory nationally. Yes they have their meetings and their website, but no one is going around demanding that I sign up.
Anyway I think it is a very sad state of affairs in the country when people begin to be afraid to sell their animals or any other private property. While I'm on the subject, this exact topic should start being included in your letters to editors and congressment. People being afraid to sell for fear of being spied upon when a law is not yet in effect is very serious and we really need to stop this. This really, really bothers me as a veteran. I didn't serve my country for this.
