My Turn... Update - New Pics Post #37

I just received a phonecall from a friend of mine that has rescued an abandoned horse. She can't afford to keep her on agistment (stabling) and has asked if I could take her here.

Originally her friend had to get her (the mare) off a rental property that she was managing through a real estate agent as the previous tenants had abandoned the property along with the mare and several dogs which the RSPCA have taken. The RSPCA here won't take horses. The lady who took her off the property that is my friend's friend (confusing) no longer wants responsibility of looking after her so that's why my friend rang me. I seem to be the halfway home for horses at the moment (I'm a softie I must admit)

My freind has called her 'Penny' as she was a 'lucky' horse to have been found. If she had've remained on the property she surely would've starved. She's been vet checked ok but is rather underweight. The scary part is that she may be pregnant! (will get blood test results back next week)

Penny is around 14hh and somewhere between 18 and 20yo. Covered in rain scald and from what my friend says 'not a pretty looker'. However, the horse float (trailer) is being hitched this afternoon to bring another one back to the property.

Every time we get down to 3 horses another comes along. The plan is to fatten her up, suss her out and if she's not pregnant pass her on. If she's pregnant that opens another great big ballgame. I guess I'll have to wait and see.

I will post photos when she arrives.

I'm not expecting the photos to be pretty. Oh, I forgot, she's bay and does have some branding (hard to determine) from what my friend said. I've got the big S on my head today that's for sure.

Poor baby! Good for you for getting her. I know you will take good care of her and give her what she hasn't had enough of.....food and love!

Just looked up her brands. She's a QLD horse.. Possibly a TB but there was no reference to the brand on the Aust TB stud book. Brands register there is not accurate before 2002.

I have searched the QLD brand register and come up with a name and an address. Looks like I'll be probably writing them a letter if I can't find any more info on the brand owner (like e-mail/phone)

Awww what a doll. The lady who owns the farm where I board my horse bought 2 pregnate TB x racers. They were as skinny if not skinnier then the house you rescued. The both had BEAUTIFUL foals. The meat market almost bought them.
