Cool My search for a western arabian saddle

I am looking for a saddle that I can use with Tiff and also possible with Azar. They have remarkably similar backs...

Wide and short. That is why I am thinking that an arabian tree will work best for them. They measure at about 23 inches for length on their backs before the saddle would pinch at the shoulder, or rub at the hip.

Both of them have low withers, so wither/gullet height won't be too big of a problem.

I will do a back tracing for both of them, and photograph the results for you all.

I have been in love with the Simco arabian saddles for a long time. What I want to do with the saddle is some training and mostly trail riding for them. Anyone have any reccomendations for a good saddle that might work for us?

I am looking hopefully for something used, in the 500$ range.

I ride a lot of arabs and I'm partial to the Abetta saddles. They're perfect for short, wide backs as you can get them with a round skirt and they tend to have a wide, low gullet. They're also synthetic so they're easy to care for and are light weight, though in my experience they stand up to a lot of use.

My only complaint about them is that I don't care for the stirrups they come with. Two of my clients have had them and both saddles needed replacement stirrups after less than a year (they're plastic and crack).

Thanks Avishay...I have heard good things about the Abetta saddles. I currently own two synthetics (english) and I kind of want a leather western saddle. I will consider one of the Abettas though, if worse comes to worse. I wouldn't mind being stuck with one of those.

I found a great deal on this saddle -

It is a 700$ new saddle amd someone online is selling a used (like new) one for 399 negotiable.

Problem is, I really wanted a darker oil saddle for my two bays. Would it be hard to darken a light saddle? I've darkened a lighter bridle before, but a whole saddle?

Does anyone know anything about the 'american saddlery' brand? How are ralide trees? Good, or junk?

American saddlery are not the highest quality saddles. But they may work for what you want.

    I found a few..

This one is a little more than you want to spend but may be worth the extra $
    Schneider Saddlery

There are a few here..some are synthetic though

    Big Horn Saddles

And this one is just a lil more but again ALOT nicer than the one you are looking at IMO

    Schneider Saddlery

    ? Looks nice

15" or 16" Custom Flex Tree Trail Saddle FQHB dk 202fx

15" 16" Dakota Arabian Horse Saddle dk 5319

Those are just a few I found...dont know much about arab trees though..so they may not work

I have an American Saddlery barrel saddle.
    I LOVE it!
It is a great saddle, I just had it since the middlle of July, but it's seems to be really well made and really durable.
    Love it.

I personally don't care for the bighorn saddles, and I think the schnider saddles, nice-looking as they are, probably won't fit an arab.

The last saddle - the Dakota Arabian saddle, looks lovely at first glance - but check out that cantle! It's really low, wide, and shallow, and the front of the seat is built up. That's a saddle that's going to tip you back and be uncomfortable for both horse and rider.

Avishay, what do you think of the Simco's?

    Simco Arabian Saddles

I would have to find a used one I think...I like the 'arabian trail' one, too bad there's no tooling on that one...

I've never heard of using a gaited saddle on a non-gaited horse. Wouldn't the bar formation in the shoulders be wrong.
