My project

Here is my new project horse. she will (and is doing a great job so far) be a great and wonderful pasture puff!!!! Im not going into all the long boring details on her story. But we took her in (a friend is the one that got her out of where she was)
Here she is when we first got her home
Here is Kaite (Stinker is what i call her... if you dont watch it she will take whatever you might be holding out of your hands and walk off) 20 years old ....yes she is missing an eye

Now the guy that had her said that she wasn't "that skinny" and it was only because she was old. Well we got her home and in order to better treat some of the things that was going on the vet said, just go ahead and clip off her winter coat so that we can #1 get a better look at her and #2 treat some skin issues that she was having. So we clipped off her winter coat that was hiding how bad she really was (PLEASE ignore the cruddy clipping job my clipper blades are dying and they don't sell the ones for my model of clipper here!!!) Yes she is preggers and is due towards the end of August. When we first got her she was so weak that she never walked more than 2 steps away from the stall. Now this morning she was running all over the pasture for breakfast and was even throwing in a few bucks for good measure! (These are from about 3 weeks ago)

Not that skinny? Was the guy on crack? If your horse looks like a living skeleton, then they are skinny. Lol. Good job for taking her in. I hope the foal is healthy and so is she being that underweight and carrying a baby.

aww, congrats! she is going to be lovely! and don't worry about the baby, just get her healthy and your little one will be just fine... I just went through this same thing myself with a very underweight mare that I purchased... but she was pregnant and none of us knew... she gave birth less than 5 weeks after I brought her home
Can't wait to see your mare blossom!

Hey I found a grea trick for putting weight ona horse is Flax seed (ground). It really works! I had a mare that wasn't quite as bad a s yours but pretty bad. It is really good for their hooves and their coats. Plus it made my mares mane grow really long. Olive iol is really good too. I would just put a bit of that in with a feeding. Sweet peas are REALLY good too. What you could do is go to the Grocery store and buy the mixed veggies. Just put them in warm water or find out if she like um cold.
These are just suggestions, ignore me if you want...
