Just found the cutest pic on the camera card that my daughter took. This was taken on 5-9-09 (I have GOT to get out there and get newer pics)
This is Katie and her buddy Cheyenne, our 33 year old paint mare. These two are joined at the hip and rarely do you see very far from the other.
I just thought that this was the sweetest pic.
Katie is defiantly feeling better and getting more and more spunk. If she sees you coming with the lead rope and the medicine bucket she will lead you on a chase around the pasture.
The other day we where out there giving her a bath and my son started laughing and I asked him what was so funny and he was like look mom Katies butt has some wiggle now!!!! When we got her there was not one ounce of fat on her rump it was all bone and when you poked it that was all you felt now she has some padding!!! It is a slow progress but hopefully eventually she will look as fat and happy as the other old mare next to her.

Oh well done to you! And kudo's for taking this mare in. We have a rescue mare ourselves and she will reward you for your kindness, you can depend on it. She looks so much better already.

I finally got the chance to get some new pics of Kaite so I figured that I would update on how she was doing.

This one was taken on July 9th

And these where taken on July 22

As you can tell she was just thrilled to be having her picture taken

And here she is waiting for the dinner buffet to open!!!

She is fleshing up nicely but is sure taking her dear sweet time with it eh? Poor girl was so emaciated when you got her.

When I got my old man out of his lease care nightmare he was quite emaciated as well. I put him out on pasture and gave him all the grass/alfalfa he could eat but made little progress. I had to put him on straight senior feed before he fleshed up at all. His teeth were almost non-existent it turns out, so the foraging was keeping him occupied and his stomach full, but passing thru him without any nutritional value.

It is nice to see her ribs finally covered up and her hiney starting to look like a horse hiney instead of a coat rack. Good job with her.

What are you feeding her, if you don't mind my asking.

Oh, Cheryl, she is just lovely. You have done an amazing job with her!

It took my Buddy a good 7-8 months to put all the weight back on so she looks right on track.

Great job!!

I'm sorry if I made it sound like she was not gaining fast enough. She IS right on track. It is never fast enough though, at least not for us.

She is looking so much better! It always takes them too long to gain weight, but she is definitely gaining well!
