The quarter crack might or might not be causing enough pain to make her hips uneven. It sounds like you have multiple issues going on. Quarter cracks are usually caused by leaving too much hoof wall in that area. This could be causing some pain, causing her to hike or drop a hip. Or, a hip problem would be weighting the foot incorrectly and causing pressure that shouldn't be there. Impossible to say from here.

Can you take some pictures of her feet, with the camera as close to the ground as you can put it? And a picture of how she normally stands will help too.

The pictures need to be somewhere on the internet itself in order to post....

To fix a quarter crack, you sometimes don't even need shoes. Not with a really good farrier.

A notch at the top, a weight distribution triangle notch on the bottom, and the ones I've delt with, stabilize and grow out very nicely. Severe ones might need a few staples to keep it stabilized till the hoof grows out.

As to the cause, a good farrier can locate the cause. If it is foot related...(and usually is) he should fix it. If he feels it is an issue higher up, then he can recommend bringing yoru vet into the picture.

Since the horse is in pain, it sounds like the crack has gone deep. And definitly needs an excellent farrier involved, possibly a vet.

Is this the same paint mare you posted about in breeding??? If so, do not attempt to breed her until you get the quarter crack issue cleared up, as the excess weight of foal will only exacerbate the issue.

Also as J & B so succinctly pointed out, the hip issue could be a conformational issue that is causing the quarter crack, so you'll want to sort that all out as well. IF she's uneven in her hips, she's not going to be a good breeding prospect.

Normally a good farrier and vet can work together to solve a quarter crack issue. Being in Roseburg, you're fairly close to OSU Vet School in Corvallis so you can always utilize their expertise as well!

Chiropractor? Don't know - depends on what's really wrong. It wouldn't hurt, but remember there seem to be multiple issues going on here.

Hoof oil won't fix a quarter crack. A good farrier/trimmer who can trim correctly will fix it in no time.
