![]() | This is our first time here and we need help. We live in a subdivision where everyone has at least 5 acres to a home so naturally there is a lot of animals (horses). We have 18 acres and the people across the street have 27 acres. Last evening our 2 mares got out and started walking down the street. The people across the street from us have about 11 horses in different pastures. Well, one of their stallions saw our horses out and got out as well....to follow them I guess!! The other neighbor down the street said they saw the stallion, well...doing his business with our mare.... our two mares look alike so the neighbor couldn't tell us which one was mounted. We are not even sure she is pregnanat, however our question is what happens from here if she <hypethetically> is? What happens to the baby and do I have to pay the stud fee?? What goes on from here? You will probably be better off terminating the pregnancy if there is one so you don't end up in a battle with you neighbors about this.

While it is not a good thing horses do sometimes get out of their pastures, corrals, paddocks, stalls or enclosures. A stallion owner has to take EXTRA precautions and make extra effort to keep their stallion from getting out and becoming a nuisance or endangering another horse human or animal. As far as I am concerned your both responsible and if it was my horse I would have the Vet closely monitor the mares and if they are pregnant I would have the pregnancy terminated. In all honestly, you both should be glad that no horse or human was injured and I would not want anyone in the neighborhood (especially fellow horse owners) having hard feelings or worse being mad at me!

![]() ![]() ![]() | Well, I think it was both of your guy's fault in ways, so you shouldnt have to pay the stud fee...and that you and the other owner should work out an agreement about the baby if there is one! But before you do, get the vet in and have your mre checked out! |
