He was the sweetest little guy and only let me ride him. All these other really good riders would try and he'd rear up, start cow kickin'. When I got up on him he was as good at gold.

He died of Colic. A snake scared the stuffing out of him when he was in his stall over night, and he was colicing the next morning.

awwwwwww oh my god i am so sorry to hear that that must have been devistating for you and the horse. I am sorry to hear it again i hope the other horse got around okay after his buddy wasn't there anymore he must have been lonely

He was lonely, then he befriended and old Trekehner guy. Plus, we gave him lots of attention. Took him on some trails and let him eat some nice grass in the park.

my boyfriend befriended a big belgian draft horse while i was up at the barn (he'd come just to see the big guy!) there was something about the way they interacted that was different! it was a true connection. my bf would go out to the feild the horse was in with brushes while i was tacking up and just brush him and love on him!! the two of them would run in the feild together the horse would follow the bf around like a big puppy! bf even got on and rode around the feild (much to my displeasure) probably not the best idea but it was the trust and care that amazed me!! it was a very different relationship! unfortunatly the barn was just not the right size for this big guy and they sent him down the road to the place he was from originally which was a barn that bred belgians! we drive by and stop sometimes if he's in the feild, he still recognizes my boyfriend!! its truly heartwarming!

that is so cool yes a relationship with a belgian is different then any toher horse i think i bonded and clicked with my horse in minutes when it takes longer for a differnt horse belgiand are gently giants and they are willing to please and learn and they are very quick on who is the boss also and they are like big puppies my draft followed me everywhere he almost followed me into the tack room one day and he realized he wouldn't fit he got upset but i told him it was okay grabed my saddle he turned around and walked behind me with his head on my back threw it on and left he was a big baby if i get another horse i would choose a belgian beofre anything but like they say you take what you can get.

I am sorry you had to part with him, but what a great, touching story. It's great to hear you have such a nice farrier.

yeha my horse wzas funny around certain people exspcially men but it amazed me how fast hubby dad and farrier got to know each other and have fun. Women he didn't have a problem with but kids man he would go nuts when they would come around he loved them and did everything they asked of him. I am glad i kept him and shared all the fun loving memories that i did. Hey its okay i know he is in a better place and he is happy and having fun with all the other animals i have lost over my lifetime so far they will all see me again one day. I do miss him and wonder what he is doing and if he is looking down over me i smile and say i know he is and know that i will be okay it will be hard for a while but everything will work out and everything will be fine. I am a manic depressive so when he was put down i shut down completley from everyone and did my own things and didn't go or do asnything for a long time i am starting to come around more and more but when holidays come around and his b-day i start to cry i go to the barn i had him at last and go to our number one riding trail and just walk and remember the fun and it passes and i go back to my normal day. Its not easy and it is hard to overcome that with manic depression but working on expressing yourself and speaking out helps he wasn't only my horse he was my best friend and the inspiration to keep going and push to the future and reach my goals.
