It sounds like your mare is uncomfortable ither with the tack you are using, the way YOU are riding over fences, or with the training she has had in the past.

FIRST thing to do is make sure there is no PAIN, expecialy with the saddle fit. if your saddle is sort of ok with fit in the withers as soon as you move forward in to a two point position, it will not be ok any more(why she keeps working on the flat) and why contiual jumping she gets worse.

second how upset do you get when she is fast, tight, hard to stop. this is our contrubtion as riders to a problem. how much do we ``buy in to`` the problem. ooooo yup how much experience do you have jumping---cause it sounds to me that you are just pulling more on her to stop. hence she is pulling back and it is hard on your arms. This apperoch will not work (as you have found) bigger stronger bit will not help. you need to retrain the stop ither with the one raine stop or with using a little bit of slack and then stoping the bit and then giveing slack. beeing really clear in what you want.

What's the chance we could see a video? That would be very helpful.

i'll try get a video back to pole work

got to get a video, tack is fine.
i have found that i get annoyed and anger and i pull my hands in the air.
she gets worse so i dont help. my other 2 mares are calm jumpers and listen to me so it is a change to have one taht is a bit manic
she does rush poles and she hates it when she clips jumps with her feet makes her silly.
I dont help cause i get anger and she was a rescue so is sensitive to tone of voice and i should try circles if she refuses to work with me cause she hears my other mare

I would not recommend a one rein stop from the sounds of your mare and your riding. It sounds like she needs a quiet, soft ride from you. Either you need to work with a patient trainer who can help you learn a more tactful way of riding, or you should consider not jumping the horse/finding her a different situation. If you are more comfortable riding a calmer, quieter jumper, why are you trying to jump a horse that is hot/nervous? It doesn't make sense to keep trying to ride a horse if you just don't get along. Someone is going to get hurt if you don't make serious efforts to change things, and that means getting a trainer or selling the horse, not taking advice from an online BB.

Some types of horses just aren't good matches for certain riders, it's nothing to look down upon or feel as if you must overcome. There is nothing wrong with understanding your strengths and weaknesses (as well as a horse's) and playing to them. I love my event horse, because he's very laid-back and easy to jump, but I could never do straight dressage with him because he's just too lazy for me. I enjoy flatting my TB because he's quick, sensitive, and is able to anticipate what I want. I don't like that over fences, but I love it for dressage.

Could not agree more with you Rummy.

Good for you, acknowledging that you get impatient. You have something to work with. You will get so much more with patience. Definitely keep you hands low. You will worsen the situation.

I would really not jump for a while, until she gets quiet and you have found a good balance yourself.

Whereabouts in the UK are you Pip?
This mare sounds very like one I worked with a little while ago and if you would like some practical help I have a little time on my hands at the moment and would be delighted to come down and have a look at the two of you and see if an eye on the ground can spot what's going on and help you figure out how to fix the problem.

she used to be fine recently moved yard though just goes so fast in trot

well i have had her a year and we always got on fine we have moved yards recnetly and now when i trot she just goes so fast and wants to canter when in canter she is so balnced amazing canter but in trot it kills my arms i tried the one rein stop it did make her think twice didnt enjoy doing it felt a bit dizzy. am not jumping for a while.back to basises. is it possible for a pony to be scared off jumps? i circled infront of some poles and she tired to rush past them and tried to rear so i took all the jumps out and she was chilled. put a log infornt of her will jump that a jump she will do but rush, a pole no way what logic is that. to hack she is a diamond
and im in essex near southend on sea ur probably no where near me.

i love jumpingh she has so much potential for jumping as when she is having a gd day she jumps like a dream but that doesnt happen often she would be good at dressage as she excels at ridden showing and is good in the show ring. my jumping pony is in foal thats why im trying to jump my cob

I'm not too far away, and I have family near you that I'll be visiting in the next couple of weeks.
The offer stands if you want to take it up. Free of charge obviously.
