My head is messed up :(

No joke, there's something wrong with my brain. Or head. Or neck. They're not really sure.

My mom finally made the call - unless my doctor knows of another neurologist that can get us in sooner, I'm going to neurologist December 16.

I'm glad to finally have a date, something to look forward to. I'm hoping they can finally find out the reason behind my headaches - i haven't had a pain free day since last September 2008. We've tried all sorts of pain killers, but lately nothing has been working (most only dull the pain a little), leaving my pretty unfunctional at school. I didn't even go today because it was so bad.

I'm excited, but also kind of scared. When I first went to the doctor, they sent me in for an emergency MRI, which was normal. So I know that chances are, I don't have a brain tumor or anything abnormal. But at the same time, I can't help but worry. What if there is something wrong with my brain? What if the blurry spot caused by my braces hid something bad? What if there IS a tumor they missed? I know it's probably ridiculous, but that's what I think about every time my head hurts...so I think about it a lot.

I suppose I should clarify for those who don't know...I've been having mysterious headaches since the beginning of September, 2008. They're all on the right side of my head, starting down in my neck and traveling all the way up to behind my right eye. Originally, my doctor thought it was from a fall I had obtained while riding (surprise, surprise!) which had maybe popped something out of place, especially since there is a "lump" at where my skill meets my neck, but after numerous trips to the chiro the headaches were still there. After that they thought it was my jaw as it pops a lot and locks occasionally, but my doctor, chiro, and ortho all looked at it and said other than the noise, there was nothing wrong with it. Then they took the MRI, which came out clear. The latest theory is that it's caused by my braces (which should be coming off soon), but they're not too confident in it.

SOOO...they're sending me off to the neurologist. No one will tell me what this doctor's gonna do, which makes me incredibly nervous since I'm absolutely terrified of needles.

Sorry for the little woe me thread, just needed to get this off my chest.

Best wishes on that and I hope they can identify the culprit and help you deal with it quickly.

I dealt with a neurologist from 4th to 12th grade. It really wasn't that bad. I would get migraines and black out randomly and eventually that turned into seizures. They never did find anything wrong and I seem to have outgrown them thankfully There were a lot of tests done like EEG's and MRI's and CAT scans and PET scans. If you have any questions, feel free to pm me Good luck and I hope you start to feel better!

Good luck, babe! You'll make it out of there okay.

I get headaches somewhat frequently. I KNOW the cause of my headaches though I have TMJ, and on days where my jaw's popping really badly, I normally end up with a headache later in the day.

Good luck, fingers crossed for you!

I've had my share of MRI's and EEG's. I do remember a needle for the MRI but they gave me sleepy drugs before (oral) so I don't remember what it was for and I definitely didn't feel it haha

OMG! I have the lump at the base of my skull to and have not figured anything out.It gets worse when I have the headache. At first they thought it was from a fall like eleven years ago from a horse where I landed on my neck but never got any treatment. But everything looked normal. Then a couple years ago my bloodwork started showing a very high prolactin level and they were convinced I had a pituatry tumor but by the time I had the scan done my level was back down and now the theory is its a floating leval and its bad when I get the headaches.

Excedrin tension headache helps me better than any of the rx pain killers.

Hopefully they figure it out and you get some relief!!! I have pretty much given up because its always an I don't know whats going on answer.

yeah, they gave me a shot of something to make the blood flow in my brain clearer or something? I dunno.

MRI's aren't that bad, in my opinion. I'm having my third, in a period of only two months, in a few days. I have a brain malformation and my neurosurgeon is planning a surgery for me. They injected me with dye during my first MRI, during my second they did an EKG so that they could monitor the cerebral spinal fluid circulation in my brain, and in a few days they are going to look for spinal cord damage in my neck. The only bad part is that they take awhile sometimes and you have to be really still. I wish you luck that they find what's going on and are able to quickly fix it
