My first real trail ride...with a very steep hill!

My daughter and i went to our lesson today and went with our instructors for a hour and 15 minute trail ride! WooHoo, I can't believe how far I have come on a horse that I nearly sold!

He was such an awesom boy. All four of us just mosey'd around the area. Dubie was so good. He did everything I asked for and I can't believe how confident I was. We went on lots of trails, up a pretty steep grade then down a steep downhill. We ended up in a valley where the way to get out of the valley was to go up a pretty steep hill. But we all did it including my daughter and her horse. Bill said if I feel better hold on to the saddle horn with one hand, which I did. It was the steepest hill I ever went up on horsesback. Actually the only hill!

I thank God everyday that I did not sell that horse.

After we were done, my daughters says lets go home and go on a trail ride just the 2 of us. I said no, not ready yet. Bill said that we'll start going seperate ways when we trail ride so that hannah and I can go with our horses. Then little by little, we'll feel confident just the two of us. So I am so proud of our progress.

Wow that sounds like my first (no, actually second) real trail ride! There were STEEP slopes we had to go up and down, and it was also pretty muddy in some places. Plus I was riding a really green mare, and it was her first trail ride! But she did great and I got used to it.

Yay for you!! Steep hills can be pretty scary until you get comfortable, before you know it you'll be trail riding every chance you get........

I can't wait for the next one. It was one heck of a hill. Thank God for the horn of the saddle.

My horse worked his booty off. He was such a good boy to. Did everything I asked of him and didn't balk once.

We are a perfect example of young horse + new rider. He's 5 years old and I have been taking lessons now for about 6 months.
