My encounter with free hay (funny)

So I think I had the weirdest encounter ever last night....and it just proved how crazy I became.

My bf and I were headed home tonight (in seperate cars) when we saw this huge flatbed carrying hay bales stacked 6 or so high barrelling down the opposite lane of traffic. All of a sudden 5 or so bales come flying off it and go flying in the middle of the freeway. It was so scary I thought for sure they would hit an oncoming car.

My bf has a squad car and he does a quick u turn, puts his lights on and blocked the lanes, got out of his car and tossed the hay off the highway (for safety sake as tons of cars were traveling behind him).

Then he calls me on my cell and asks:
"What does Denali eat?"

Me: "Um, hay"

Him: "Like the stuff on the side of the road?"

Me: "Um, yep."

So I Parked in front of him with all of his flashy lights on and start scrambling to get four bales of hay in a Mazda Protege (it's a compact for anyone who doesn't know)!!!

I have one bale in the trunk, two in the back seat and one in the passenger seat. I can't even get my car into 5th gear now because the hay is in the way.

It is probably the craziest thing I have ever done and shows just how much I have descended into horse owner madness ! But I couldn't just let it sit there on the freeway! Hay is like gold for us horse people

So I am going to call my BO and see is she wants it otherwise I am going to see if a recue wants it. And soon since I can barely drive in my car right now.

And the scary part? The driver of the hay transport never looked or slowed down. Realistically scomone could have been killed from the hay flying off of his trailer....

Anyone want to take bets on how long it will take me to vacum up all of the hay in my car?...

I call three days!!!

That's pretty fortunate that you were there, and that's neat that you're giving it to the barn or a rescue! I'm sure either or both would appreciate it!

ROTF.....that's pretty funny! It's good that you are going to donate the hay to someone who needs it. I just can't help but wonder how many more bales fell off before the driver reached his destination? LMAO

He will be hard pressed to explain how his order of 200 bales to be delivered got dwindled down to 50. LMAO

I want free hay! LOL. Every time we go get a load of hay I am constantly watching for any bales to fall off. Too dang expensive to not go get it if it comes off.

I lost 4 nice bales of timothy hay one time, and stopped and put the over the guard rail, to go back and pick them up, as I could not get them back on my truck...had a load of 60 bales on a pickup....went home, and grabbed my cavalier station wagon, went back, and some one had taken them!

It will take you hours to get all that hay out of your car!

Haha, I would have followed them and collected the hay along the way.....

I think it will take 4 hay-filled shirts and bras before you get it clean.
